AIBU To not want OH to go out with this person

DizzyZebra · 08/02/2013 19:15

OH came in earlier and asked if i minded him going out. TBH i rarely mind. Then he went on going on about he'd met some bloke, Who has 16 horses (?) And is a cage fighter, He attends these fights with the gypsy blokes in the surrounding areas.

He said he'd be a couple of hours.

I'm not his mother so i feel uncomfortable saying no but TBH i'm really uneasy about this and i don't want the trouble these people can bring.

Am i being horrifically judgey?

What? Like bare knuckle fighting?

I'm not sure I'd want to spend time with anyone who got a kick out of watching a brawl.

Dannilion · 08/02/2013 19:20

Yes. "The trouble these people can bring." Horrible.

HollyBerryBush · 08/02/2013 19:20

Absolutely judgy - but probably with good reason.

But not all cage fighters are, you know, one o'them!

I know a couple of city-types who cage fight - mind you they don't run a string of horses though Wink

ClippedPhoenix · 08/02/2013 19:22

He's a grown adult and can choose his own friends surely?

So what if he's a cage fighter? It's a sport same as others.

DizzyZebra · 08/02/2013 19:23

Zigzag - Yeah thats the term he used.

Dannilion - I have experienced some of the people this person spends time with. I can't say they were good experiences. When i say 'these people' i mean the specific people he associates with.

OP posts:
Juanca · 08/02/2013 19:23

That sounds awesome! Can you ask if I can tag along?

DizzyZebra · 08/02/2013 19:25

Clipped - I don't know, is cage fighting and bare kuckle fighting different? I said cage fighting as i couldn't remember the term at first.

It's more the people involved. One group of them is well known for trouble. I used to live near where they do and often heard trouble, even gun shots some times. Even the police don't like having to go and deal with them.

OP posts:
HollyBerryBush · 08/02/2013 19:27

Op -only you know if the person he is associating with has a reputation within your local area, whether he mixes with shady types.

To sweepingly as us if all gypsy are bit dogy really does stigmatise the whole traveller community. Some good, some bad in all walks of life.

But, if your Dps mate is a bit shady and intends toget your DP involved in shady stuff - rest assured your DP will be the fall guy if things go tits up - because he is outside the community, which are run on heirarchial family lines, of which he isn't one.

But he's an adult and knows what he's getting into. Should he indeed be getting into anything

SquinkiesRule · 08/02/2013 19:28

Bare knuckle cage fighting and a string of horses? Sounds like a Guy Richie movie in the making.

DizzyZebra · 08/02/2013 19:29

Holly - I know not all gypsys are bad, i'm friends with a fair few myself! The specific ones in the area have a bit of a reputation to say the least though, And with good reason.

OP posts:
DizzyZebra · 08/02/2013 19:30

Perhaps i'm jumping to conclusions too soon. He's just come in and is cooking so i'll ask him if he had a good time and see fi he tells me anything about him.

TBH I'm also curious to know where in the hell round here he is keeping 16 horses.

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 08/02/2013 19:32

Isn't bare knuckle boxing illegal?

I agree with Squinkie, your DH is mixing up reality with Lock Stock or Snatch.

He's really down the local reading the newspaper Wink

HollyBerryBush · 08/02/2013 19:33

You in Essex? or Kent?

Get out of suburbia and the place is a wash with horses! There is quite a lot of common land where they roam free. I had the misfortune to go into Thamesmead the other day, it was like the start of the Grand National, bloody ponies all over the sodding place, wandering around Grin Erith is much the same.I have no idea what they do with them though. That remains a mystery.

DizzyZebra · 08/02/2013 19:36

Holly - No, There are plenty of stables around here, But no where i know of that would house 16. (I have had horses for years, I know pretty much everywhere in the local area). We struggled to find stabling for four.

TBH He sounds like a raving alcoholic and after speaking to DH i think the man is deluded and talking bollocks, And wondering if ZigZags Lock stock/snatch comment isn't far from the truth.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 08/02/2013 19:36

I don't know what the cage-fighter's deal is, but he sounds totally hot. Like something out of a Guy Richie movie.

I wanna go out with him.

oops long google link but pick up the Jack Mason story on the BBC - by day a City projects manager, by night he's in spandex and all oiled up Grin

FutTheShuckUp · 08/02/2013 19:51

Has he got lots of different horses, by lots of different men?

AgentZigzag · 08/02/2013 19:56

Cage fighting (which I think is legit? In the US?)

Bare knuckle boxing

What's in Juan and Katys minds Grin

Pigsmummy · 08/02/2013 20:01

He might bring you back a nice bit of gold jewellery or a horse for yourself? I hope he doesn't back bruised, try not to worry, he is a grownup x

Pigsmummy · 08/02/2013 20:03

I meant "I hope that he doesn't come home bruised" damn ipad

LilQueenie · 08/02/2013 20:37

very judgy. No different from being racist.

ClippedPhoenix · 08/02/2013 20:43

Let him find out for himself though OP ay. You have said your piece on the subject and that should be it.

I'd hate my partner to tell me who my friends should be.

Cage fighting is actually becoming a legit sport nowadays.

My DS does boxing and it's up to him if he wants to get seven shades of shite kicked out of him.
