To think its not my place to arrange sick cover on my day off?

I work in a 24hr industry. I was at work yesterday and astaff member rang in sick. As the Supervisor, I arranged cover. She didnt say whether she would or wouldnt be able to work today but would call work either last night or this morning to say whether she would be fit to work. She didn't call before my shift finished.

This morning, I get a text from the department manager (I am the supervisor), asking what I am going to do about Staff Member's shift today. I am on a day off, have a one year old and a whole load of other day to day jobs needing doing at home (I work full time shiftwork).

I am angry at it being implied that I should sort cover today, and worried about seeing my Boss tomorrow incase she gets arsey with me.

Surely the manager in charge today should be sorting it?

what did you respond?

MortifiedAdams · 07/02/2013 16:07

Yes, thts what I thought. I responded that Staff Member would contact work either last night or this morning to say whether she was fit for work.

I havent had a response, and don't know what Staff Member or Manager have done.

It's just playing on my mind.

good response. it isn't your responsibility on a day's leave so dont accept any. i wonder if the manager hasn't turned in for work aswell or something? otherwise why on earth would they even think it was anyone else's job to arrange cover?
