To despair at EVER finding a bra that fits?!

So, I have read every website on the subject, been measured at Bravissimo, and STILL find every single bra uncomfortable - even the ones that Bravissimo said were the right size. I just want to rip the thing off as soon as I get in from work. They seem fine for about an hour, then start to dig in.

I find that they just 'curl up' at the back, and I get horrible back fat, or dig in at the side/arm pit, but mainly on just one side! The band never seems to sit flush to my side iyswim. I have tried going up a band and down a cup, down a band and up a cup etc, have tried every style going..........

I found when I wore my saggy old too big bras they gave me no shape or support, but my god they were comfy!

I think I am about a 36/38 E/F. I have ordered and sent back about ten bras this last month as they just all HURT.

So, AIBU to just let 'em all hang out and be pain-free??!!!!

Ok done with bra off still 34 and half closer to 35 with leaning forward. Thru look a lot bigger with bra on just empty with it off im sure that's why bras are so difficult now :-(

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/02/2013 16:45

JeffFaFa, I would try a 28F and a 30 DD as a start point. Get the back right first (bra on back to front) then work up through the cup sizes. Given you are currently wearing a 34D I would not be surprised if you go bigger than the cup sizes given above. The cup is much harder to judge on measurement alone.

Hotair, did you pull the tape tightly when you measured underbust? If you are currently fitting comfortably in a 38/40 then I would not be inclined to increase the back size tbh if it is not causing discomfort. Can you describe what doesn't feel right on your existing bra and we can try to figure out what needs tweaked?

Is my boob twin still here ?

Can't remember who it was now, and she was also recommending a Wonderbra thingy

The bra I bought on Saturday is wonderful ...I just bought another exactly the same online from Marks and Spencer's. I know M+S isn't thought highly of wrt fitting but if you get the right fit, the bras are ok (and not £££, the one I got has 20% off £17.50, so £14)

The symptoms you are describing definitely suggest band too big. I think measurements do become less accurate at slightly larger sizes.

WIthout seeing measurements, if you had just said what you have about front digging in etc, what that says to me is the back is too big so the bra is collapsing forward and digging in. The underwires digging in also suggests cup not big enough. In terms of the central gore, that also improves if the cup is right but this is also very bra/brand specific. I find Bravissimo own brand are quite narrow in this respect (it's a problem I have). SOme Freya are ok, and Panache are terrible!

hotair - I measure a 37 underbust but wear a 34, because I have squishy torso - so definitely go smaller, at least to try and see how you get on.

If anyone is looking for a bra that gives lots of support at the side then I can really recommend Cleo, which is a Panache offshoot. I am sooo impressed with the ones I bought yesterday, I've worn one all day, lugging the children around, school, swimming lessons, housework and it hasn't needed adjusting, pulling up or down or anything. I love this thread

It's so comforting and safe

It also makes me feel a bit busty, which I never thought I was Smile

Can we start another when this is full ?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/02/2013 18:46

AF I think it is the most supportive thread on MN.

oh dear Is all I'm saying. I'm measuring 34 underbust and tried 7 bras on in M&S...all hideous...and the squish :-(

having lost a bit of weight and been left very wobbly...I really did look like a Sunday joint with the bit of string round it. Sad

SorrelForbes · 11/02/2013 19:03

Megglevache. Sounds to me like you might need to go up a cup size (or more) so you can scoop that tissue into where it should be. You're not freaky! Honestly, you should see how bad I can look in a badly fitting bra!

FryOneFatManic · 11/02/2013 19:05

I've just had an Avon book through the door, and the bra measurements given look to me like the much derided M&S measurement system. Am tempted to send them a link to this thread Grin

FryOneFatManic · 11/02/2013 19:07

Meant to add that I used to avoid underwired bras, but since getting the fit right underwired are very comfy.

And like many others I went down in the back size (from 46 to 40) and up in cup size (E to G). Made a massive difference.

wonderingsoul · 11/02/2013 19:22

I have finally found my perfect bra..
On day 2 off wearing it and I have to remember to take it off as I just don't feel it any more.

I had brought cheap bras from Tesco etc. Fitting in to a 38 C d or dd depending on the bra and make. Before and like many the relive of taking my bra off was more often then not ..better then sex.

Till I tried a 42 C push up on at marks and Spencer and it was like heven and is rather sexy.

Fingers crossed you all find thwarted perfect bra.. and you all get to do a super happy dance at it.

ihatethecold · 11/02/2013 19:27

Well sorrelforbes. I went to rigby and peller today and had a fitting.
You and anyfucker were correct in your sizing. The assistant was trying to get me to have 32e but in the end we settled on a 34e.
I'm a bit scared to wear it all day tomorrow at work but I did look so much better in the bra and I can see why there bras are expensive.
So thanks Grin

WildThong · 11/02/2013 19:40

this is in my basket, what do you think? Currently my best fitting bra is a Fauve 34e but even it gives me slight double boobage and the straps will not stay on my shoulders!

soaccidentprone · 11/02/2013 19:49

nice bra, but double boobage means the cup is too small, so you need to go up a cup size. if the straps are falling down I think that means the ribcage measurement is too small?

so if you go up a cup size from a 34d to a 34dd, then drop down on the ribcage to a 32e ( I hope this is right - I'm on a tablet so can't see what you originally put) Grin

soaccidentprone · 11/02/2013 19:50

so you need a 32f

soaccidentprone · 11/02/2013 19:51

sorry, meant 32gBlush

WildThong · 11/02/2013 19:54

32G!! Bloody heck..

Megglevache · 11/02/2013 20:00

sorrel you are so sweet the squish was over hanging the straps (back fat) but even worse awful squish below under bust at the front Shock

SorrelForbes · 11/02/2013 20:06

Wildthong. Yes, try a 32F and 32G.

Straps falling of means the back is probably too big.
