To despair at EVER finding a bra that fits?!

So, I have read every website on the subject, been measured at Bravissimo, and STILL find every single bra uncomfortable - even the ones that Bravissimo said were the right size. I just want to rip the thing off as soon as I get in from work. They seem fine for about an hour, then start to dig in.

I find that they just 'curl up' at the back, and I get horrible back fat, or dig in at the side/arm pit, but mainly on just one side! The band never seems to sit flush to my side iyswim. I have tried going up a band and down a cup, down a band and up a cup etc, have tried every style going..........

I found when I wore my saggy old too big bras they gave me no shape or support, but my god they were comfy!

I think I am about a 36/38 E/F. I have ordered and sent back about ten bras this last month as they just all HURT.

So, AIBU to just let 'em all hang out and be pain-free??!!!!

Only read the OP so excuse me if someone has already said this but with a new bra I always find I have to 'break it in' slowly over a weak or so and also soak it in fabric conditioner to soften it up.

I love bra threads. In my 20s, M&S measured me at 40A. I spent YEARS miserable at my hideous combo of flat chested lumpiness before going to a proper bra shop and discovering I was a 34DD. (Not any more ... but that's another story ...) I came out a different woman, and have since been evangelical about getting measured (and fitted into the right style etc) by someone who really knows what they are doing!

VenusRising · 07/02/2013 12:44

Balconette styles are more comfy for me too, as my boobs sit 'high' up on my chest, and there isn't the room under the Ann for any longer a wire.

My boobs also point outwards, not straight ahead, so I like a bra with an extra panel in the side to keep them pointing forward.

Padded bras make me look like I'm exploding!

People always ask me if I've lost a ton of weight when I wear a more supportive bra as it hikes them off my (rather slim actually, underneath the ledge) waist!!!!

It's worth the effort to get a good style and fit.

Figleaves are having a flash sale today which might be of interest to many on this thread Smile

AngelAtTheTopOfTheTree As Celtic says, if it's on the tightest hook then a 36 is too big for you. If you're a size 12 then I'd be very surprised if you didn't fit a 30/32.

massistar · 07/02/2013 14:12

Oh dear. I've been wearing a 34B for years and never had the boobage I desire. I'm measuring 31" under and 35" over. I have a 32C Clavin Klein one that seems to fit quite well, is that about right?

soaccidentprone · 07/02/2013 14:17

thanks AD.

just ordered 2 new bra's plus some thermal vests for dh, came to just over £50, used code FIGTENDEL, got £10 off any delivery upgrade to expressGrin

was just thinking financially was doing quite well this month tooBlush

SorrelForbes · 07/02/2013 14:22

massistar You're not far off but I'd consider trying a 30DD, a 30D and a 32D. Most people who measure inbetween band sizes need the smaller one. I measure 30.5/31 depending on how much chocolate I've stuffed down my face and wear a 30.

AngelAtTheTopOfTheTree · 07/02/2013 14:27

celtic 'Listen to your man.' Haha! You have to keep them happy, don't you...!? Wink Yes to the tightest setting, but it's an M&S cotton bra which has been washed/worn quite a few times so I think that might be why it's on that setting. I will definitely try on other sizes too though. I tried balconette bras ages ago but I think they must have been too small so I'll try again. Thanks again - really, really helpful.

Thank you sorrell. I will try on a few different sizes. I'm getting excited now about these bad boys having some decent support!!!

Thank you all.

SorrelForbes · 07/02/2013 14:29

AngelAtTheTopOfTheTree Have you measured underneath your bust holding the tape measure tightly?

HazleNutt · 07/02/2013 14:30

A well-fiting bra will indeed make a massive difference. I have a friend who always insisted she's a 38. I put her in 32 and everybody keeps commenting how much weight she has lost. She hasn't, just has a waist now and boobs under her chin where they belong.

massistar · 07/02/2013 14:31

Gosh, my boobs look way too small to be wearing a DD anything but I'm going to Cardiff at the weekend so will be hitting John Lewis for all those sizes and just trying them on I guess. Thanks Sorrel. :-)

AngelAtTheTopOfTheTree · 07/02/2013 14:34

sorrell Yes, it was tight. Tighter than I would have done before. Felt supportive. Though I have noticed sometimes that those bras - they are t-shirt bras from M&S - how do I explain this....? If you lean forward and your boobs do too, then you could fit a couple of fingers in between the underwire and the skin/base of the boob - there is a big gap. So, I think I will go for a smaller band size as you and Celtic say to make them more snug.

If only men were to read this thread......they would all look like this......Shock

SorrelForbes · 07/02/2013 14:34

You're welcome (remember to scoop).

AngelAtTheTopOfTheTree · 07/02/2013 14:38

I shall scoop away! Smile

SorrelForbes · 07/02/2013 14:40

Ok, it definitely sounds to big Grin. Existing bras probably feel too tight because the cups are too small and the band is having to compensate for lack of material in the cup.

SorrelForbes · 07/02/2013 14:40

Agggh 'too'

VanCampsPorknBeans · 07/02/2013 14:42

The sports bra by Glamorise fits like a dream. www.amazon.co.uk/Glamorise-1006-Womens-Sports-Bra/dp/B000VK5W66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360248043&sr=8-1

I've had three since 2006 and they still rock! Although, now, I just use them for sleeping every now and then.

AngelAtTheTopOfTheTree · 07/02/2013 14:45

I agree - the band is definitely too big. It's all making sense now. I have not felt so positive about these puppies for so long. This is the most helpful thing I have read - it's wonderful!

Yep, I'd say a 40FF, 40G or possibly a 42F, 42FF (I suspect the 40G will be the best fit but will depend on style and brand of course).
