...listening to ds's (4) chest and maybe listen to his back too?

He literally listened for 2 seconds and said fine, all clear!! I asked if he would listen to his back, he said not necessary and proceeded to check his temp, ears and throat...

DS has been coughing quite severely for 5 nights, last night his breathing became very short and sounded wheezy.... he is not my pfb fwiw!

He's been prescribed an inhaler, but AIBU expecting the doctor to take a little more time listening to my child's chest?

I totally value the NHS but right now feel a bit let down by this doctor, should I get a second opinion.. WWYD?

Thanks

If you are not happy then get a second opinion, our doctor only listens to the back if the front wasn't clear though

Did he prescribe the inhaler today?

Startail · 06/02/2013 13:20

There is one dr. that I, and several of my friends refuse to see because he starts from the assumption there is nothing wrong. His examinations are like that.

The receptionists don't say a word when you ask to see any doctor, but him.

Yes inhaler prescribed today after ds had a massive coughing fit resulting in him throwing up in his office and in tears. :(

So he has been treated so all good surely?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 06/02/2013 13:24

Get a second opinion! He could need anti biotics or steroids or the inhaler could be sufficient who knows but every dr I have ever seen listens for longer and listens to chest front and back. I'd not feel happy with that at all!!!

KatherineKrupnik · 06/02/2013 13:30

So the doctor listened to his chest, decided that he needed an inhaler, prescribed the inhaler... What do you hope he might have done differently if he had listened to the back as well?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 06/02/2013 13:41

He probably wouldn't have heard anythin different bit drs do sometimes miss things. It wouldnt have hurt to spend an extra two seconds to be sure.

I can't speak for anyone else but I certainly have trouble having cinfidebfe in a dr who spends next to no time looking at somethin.

Its natural to
Feel something's been forgotten or missed when things are done in such a hurry.
