To think that you shouldnt have to take a half day off work to wait in for another bloody repairman

Told work this morning and they arent happy saying its a bit short notice but I really dont have anyone I can ask to wait in my house from 2 till when they decide to show up. Surely in this day and age and with the added pressure of my sales target being hiked up again you should be able to get a definite time or arrange it in a lunch hour? Why do they assume that you are sat in your house all day and dont work? Am I just having a rant about this for nothing or does anyone else feel my pain?

So, the repairman told the customer after you that he would be there at 1pm. Your repair turned out to be more complicated/time-consuming than expected. He walks out on you at 12.30 saying he had to be at the next customer by 1pm and he would come back to you tomorrow.

How would you feel?

BusyTiredAndLoveIt · 04/02/2013 12:44

I think it depends on the repair tbh.

It's unlikely you'll be their only customer though. At least you got a 'after 2' appointment.

Could have been a 'between 9 and 4'

The repairmen work too and it is not easy for them! Is getting them to phone you when they are on their way not an option? You might not have to leave work so early then!

Thames Water need to come round an put a new stop tap in the house as it doesnt have one currently. The HA cant repair the leak under the bath until this is done. I would ask the neighbours but they are at work and college! I have asked them if they can do it as a last call of they day but they cant do this apparently and only work till 5.30 ; 0 (

Then I think yabu.

They are a huge company with thousands of customers. They can't possibly please everyone.

And you can't moan about them finishing at 5:30-sounds perfectly reasonable to me. They'll have an out of hours service for emergencies-which yours isn't.

Trills · 04/02/2013 12:57

I agree with Cassarick. They cant give an exact time because their previous appointments are for "until the job is done", not for a particular amount of time.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 04/02/2013 13:13

The repair guy just gets a list of addresses and works his way down - they can't possibly give a time scale as how does he know how long each job is going to be.

In this day and age thank god humans are still required to do these jobs!!

When I get work done I just give them my mobile number and ask that they call me 20 mins before they are gonna be with me and I will nip out from work. If you are wanting an appointment in your lunch hour them presumably you are not that far away either and this would be an option for you rather than sitting in all day waiting.
