Think I might possibly have too many bottle of perfume, yet went into The Fragrance Shop today and had a look through their sale box. never been in there before but saw a bottle of one of my favourite scents (Michael kors) and bought it. Now have 20 bottles. Is that a normalish amount?

Panzee · 03/02/2013 10:05

I have no perfume at all. 20 is fine. Especially as you didn't buy them all!

Saski · 03/02/2013 10:10

I think 20 bottles of perfume is unreasonable by most any yardstick, because they will go off before you can use them all. If you have too much of anything, you can't figure out what you have and you're not really making good use of your time, money or space.

But, most everyone goes overboard on something. For me, it's sweaters.

simplesusan · 03/02/2013 10:18

As long as you use them then go ahead.
As saski points out most of us have excess of something.
You sound a long way of being the next target of extreme horders and i would rather come across someone who hordes perfume than beer bottles.

expatinscotland · 03/02/2013 10:20

Yes, 20 bottles of the same one is OTT.

expatinscotland · 03/02/2013 10:21

What Saski said, too.

50shadesofpink · 03/02/2013 10:30

Doesn't seem like loads.
I am lucky that my dad works at the airport and gets staff discount so I never have to pay full price or even duty free price for perfume. So I have built up a collection and have a few unopened boxes. I don't think I would be buying as many if I had to pay full price though.

I do have to say though that I only reorder when I am running low so that I don't end up with absolutely loads of bottles and risk them going off - but I order about 5/6 different ones about 3 times a year and occasionally when something new comes out and I want to try it.

CaseyShraeger · 03/02/2013 10:37

I have none, so you can use my notional allowance.

HappyMummyOfOne · 03/02/2013 10:43

YANBU, i have a fair few bottles too. Have a couple of firm favourites but love wearing different scents depending on my mood and where i am going.

BrianButterfield · 03/02/2013 10:46

I don't think it's too much if perfume's your 'thing'. And that Lidl one is crap - doesn't smell like the Chanel one at all and lasts about two seconds.

scottishmummy · 03/02/2013 10:53

if you got whopping discount maybe, but wouldn't the perfume deteriorate over time?
20 of same bottle, does seem excessive
don't think I've ever had 20 exact same bottles

scottishmummy · 03/02/2013 10:58

so how much did you pay, and what's rrp.how bargaintastic was it?

PoppyWearer · 03/02/2013 10:59

YANBU.

I adopt the same logic with buying coats, shoes, boots and bags. 20 coats is obviously a completely normal number of coats to possess, ditto perfume.

Except that I am eyeing up another coat ATM.

(If we stick together on this OP, all will be well.)

scottishmummy · 03/02/2013 11:02

why wpuld you want many duplicates of clothes, shoe, bag?isn't it bit samey
I get 3-4 nice blk trousers etc but not loads of same thing.how restrictive
if youve go the income why not buy many nice things than lots of duplicates

Buzzardbird · 03/02/2013 11:04

I have at least 30, they are all gifts. Keep them in a dark place and they last a lot longer.
I also have a preference with day/night and summer/winter fragrances.
I used to have a good friend who worked for an enormous fragrance company and he used to give me tester bottles and samples because he was lovely. (sadly died) and I can't bear to use them now.
So no IMO YANBU

Saski · 03/02/2013 11:06

Just because you can buy lots of things, doesn't mean you should.

scottishmummy · 03/02/2013 11:13

I'm more astonished at the number of duplicates,20 same coats, bags, perfume
I wouldn't want 20+ of anything.nothing is so chic that you need 20+

germyrabbit · 03/02/2013 11:20

20 is loads imo anyway though i can talk as i have about 20 mac lippies

OnwardBound · 03/02/2013 11:20

I don't think you're unreasonable.

I have about 30 bottles, big and small.

I was hugely into perfume about 10 years ago and couldn't resist picking up a bottle here and there, duty free etc. Also received some as presents.

They last absolutely ages and I still have about 1/2 to 3/4 of most of them.

I keep them in their boxes in a dark cool cupboard and none have gone off or evaporated.

Probably have about £600 - £800 worth in total [RRP] but won't have to buy any more for another ten years or so.

scottishmummy · 03/02/2013 11:21

same shade?or different

bedmonster · 03/02/2013 12:22

yorkshire is that really true about ebay? Do people really buy half full bottles?!

bedmonster · 03/02/2013 12:23

OP, I have about 10 bottles on my dresser, but only 1 that I love and really use. I have another 5 or so perfume sets in my regifting cupboard as I really wouldn't wear them. I think 20 is fine.

lovetomoan · 03/02/2013 21:59

Lidl perfume? Please tell me the name of it Smile

wiltingfast · 03/02/2013 22:36

20 seems like a LOT! I have 1 at the mo, the most I ever would have had is 2-3. But I'm not that into it and I'm really fussy so takes me ages to find a perfume and then I wear it literally for years, so far I've done dior dune, body shop mostly musk, d&g contradiction, caroline herrara sexy, molecule oil 01 and now back with ch sexy... That took me 25y or so!

FunnysInLaJardin · 03/02/2013 22:39

I have 4. Prada Ambre and Prada other one!, Cristalle and Eau Dynamisante. I would like a couple of Jo Malones prob LB&M and Vetyvert and then I would be complete!

thefirstmrsrochester · 03/02/2013 22:50

I have four. Chanel Allure, Chanel coco for day and evening respectively. Aqui de Parma for summer and as soon as there is a hint of frost or snow its time for Clinique aromatics. I had a brief dalliance with Space NK laughter some 10 years ago. Not a bad interloper actually.
