to have no sympathy for those that can't afford their littering fine.

In the paper and news in London there were people complaining that they received fines for littering. One uni student was caught throwing her cig butt and can't afford the fine. I hate to be an old nag but if I littered when I was younger a shop owner would give me an earful and if it was ever near where I live they head to my parents and I get in real trouble. Now these people weren't kids.. When did it all of a sudden become ok to throw your trash around. I'm glad they were fined

Someone almost hit me in the face the other day chucking a fag butt into the road.

Minging and rude.

Hmm

I also stopped inviting a friend round because she thought it was reasonable to chuck fag butts in my garden.

Shock

They should use bins. Or pay the fine. Simples.

YANBU. I am sick of seeing cigarette butts chucked about. Usually out of car windows as they are driving. Angry

There should be fines for spitting and depositing chewing gum too.

Went to the panto the other day, and people left all their sweet wrappers on the floor when they left. When did that become ok? Confused

I still smoke Blush, but I do put the ends in the bin. And I've done the 'excuse me you dropped this' thing to people when they casually discarded empty crisp bags. Heart in mouth every time, but they've always blushed, taken it back and carried it away with them.

Yanbu. People littering is disgusting if you can't afford to pay the fine don't do it.

Its like stealing and saying 'you can't send me to prison, I don't really fancy that'.

Although since you can now take a driving course instead of points when caught speeding, perhaps you should be able not pay the fine if you spend a few hours picking up litter.

Perhaps with a sign on your back explaining why you are doing it.
