to be furious with dh for eating cakes he knew were destined for the bin!

OK. I bake a lot. And sometimes my cakes are beautiful, and we all enjoy them. But sometimes it does not go so well and the cakes come out sunk or burnt or still wet in the middle (if dh would get the fan fixed on the oven this would happen a lot less often, but that's another thread)

There is a system, dh and the children are well aware of it. If the cakes are good to eat, they either go in a freezer bag for later use, or in a sealed tin for use over the week, or on a plate on the side so that they can be eaten now. DH knows this and I never complain about him "sampling" even if th cakes are meant for after dinner or whatever. I bake a lot so there is usually something there if he fancies a nibble.

If the cakes are not up to scratch, they go in the bin as soon as they are cooled (or as soon as dh empties the bin - there's another thread there!)

so this morning dh saunters into the kitchen to get himself breakfast. I come in and find him cramming his mouth with the burnt, crappy cakes that were sitting in the bun tray by the bin. I was really pissed off and had a go at him for it. I can make really nice cakes and I make plenty of them, so he has no need to wind me up and embarrass me by eating the ones that have gone wrong. He know it is a pet hate of mine.

so he strops off to work having called me a "control freak" in front of our children who were sitting having their breakfast. I am Not Happy.

I just don't get why you'd be embarrassed about your DH eating your substandard cakes? I am great full for my DH and DC to eat any baking mishaps in this house. They know I can make fab cakes, so why would I be embarrassed?

I did once decorate a not that great giant cupcake and give it to my DC to take to their Dads one weekend to save wasting it. ( they happily eat any cake, substandard or not!) when they came home they told me how they'd taken it to their Uncles house and shared it out to the whole extended family. Now, seeing as they aren't aware how amazing my usual baking is, that was a bit embarrassing, but only for about two seconds and I don't feel traumatised by it.

I do think you need to relax a by OP.

trixymalixy · 21/01/2013 18:01

Wow. I have read some bonkers OPs on MN, but this one really takes the cake biscuit.

OP, listen to what everyone is trying to tell you, it is not normal to be so pissed off about someone eating a less than perfect cake!

Kleinzeit · 21/01/2013 18:04

More seriously?. as someone who occasionally has to apologise for a ?Wendy Craig dinner? (anyone remember ?Butterflies??) I?m flattered if my DH willingly eats my burnt offerings.

Honestly OP, what a strange thing to take offense over!

FloatyBeatie · 21/01/2013 18:06

The most famous producer of burnt cakes was King Alfred, just one letter different from OP's username. Next up will be a thread with an OP called Canute complaining that her DH did nothing about the tide coming in too quick and ruining little Jocasta's sandcastle.

Biscuit
Pandemoniaa · 21/01/2013 18:07

I did ponder on that connection, upthread, Floaty. I await developments.

Bogeyface · 21/01/2013 18:07

:o They are called Butterfly Casseroles in our family after my mum made one particularly memorable and spectacularly awful creation involving (as I recall kidney beans, cheese and not a hell of a lot else!

LisaMed · 21/01/2013 18:08

Only on page 8, and this thread will probably go 'poof' but just to say we do not have birds in our garden ever - due to a combination of the local rats and the feral cats.

If you don't want the burnt cake, please send here, I luffs a bit of charred sponge

sweetestB · 21/01/2013 18:10

we can swap husbands if yours is that bad......

Slubberdegullion · 21/01/2013 18:11

HerRoyalNotness I just had a little frisson at your Six Sigma breakdown. I cannot tell you the number of times dh, in reverential tones, has told me of its enormo-cleverness and how it is the way to enlightenment and huge profits and I dunno, getting fuller thicker hair, and I have had to sit there nodding and giving him my full head-tilted attention all the time sending him mind vibes to go and get me a sherry.

and there it is! Six Sigma! on this thread of binned cakes and no birds. Amazing. Clever old Six Sigma.

missingmumxox · 21/01/2013 18:11

think the OP had a snow day and was too much of a wimp to play outside with their friends.

Behindthesofa · 21/01/2013 18:12

Clearly you are not Marie Antoinette.

mrsmindcontrol · 21/01/2013 18:13

Everyone listen to me. THIS THREAD CANNOT BE SERIOUS. If it is, the world has literally gone mad.
That's it. I'm done.

LesBOFerables · 21/01/2013 18:15

Amnesty are now on the case for the condemned cakes- well done MN for raising this important issue.

piprabbit · 21/01/2013 18:15

I am boggling that anyone manages to bake some many duff cakes that they need to have a special system for coping with the below standard output.

atacareercrossroads · 21/01/2013 18:17

Oh let him eat the rancid fucking shitty cakes ffs, and get some baking lessons

atacareercrossroads · 21/01/2013 18:19

And sort your oven out and learn how to empty a bloody bin. If he carks it due to one of your cakes you'll have to do it anyway

diddl · 21/01/2013 18:20

" we really don't have any problems. "

But he called you a control freak and you decide which cakes he can eat_- how insulting is that?

Allinonebucket · 21/01/2013 18:21

My poem is all my own work.

XiCi · 21/01/2013 18:21

This really is the best thread ever, its really made me smile

It can't be true, do people like this really exist? And the poor sods that have to live with them - surely noone would put up with this madness. Reduced to sneaking into the kitchen and shovelling food into his mouth from the bin in case he incurs his wifes wrath? Hahahahah the poor sod!

OP are you Bree Van Der Kamp?

TheOriginalLadyFT · 21/01/2013 18:23

Allinonebucket

Am most impressed!

Lilithmoon · 21/01/2013 18:23

Ha ha... this is the best bunfight ever!

McKayz · 21/01/2013 18:24

This is one of those first world problems isn't it? It's cake. Get over yourself.

Also it's 2013. Get the fan fixed and put the rubbish out
