I know we all tend to panic at a bit of snow! But i live in Wales its pretty bad and my DD school has closed.

I'm a lone parent and no one could have my daughter (5) and my parents couldn't have her either.

I work in call type centre for one of UK's favourite retailers. So I understand i'm letting them down not going in but I'm stuck.

We have to call a sick line, spoke to person manning it who is a manager but not mine. He said 'do you think your manager will be happy with your decision' Hmm

He doesn't know my circumstances so I had to tell him I'm on my own so couldn't help it.

I know its trivial but he's known for being a bit of an a**e!

It's not really a 'decision' is it? I would probably have pointed that out to him tbh. If there is a 5 year old child who is not able to go to school and there is nobody else who can look after her, wtf are you expected to do?

Kiriwawa · 18/01/2013 09:16

People are quite often complete gits about childcare - I would have said that I was stuck and wasn't able to get in.

Then again, I genuinely was stuck once because of snow and ice - it took me two hours to walk to the nearest open station and my manager had a massive go at me for being late to work Hmm

reply 'well I am fairly sure he wouldn;t be happy if I turned up with my 5 year old in tow'

The answer you were looking for was "yes, because otherwise I'd be bringing a 5 year old into work with me, and my manager really wouldn't be happy with that would s/he?" Grin

The other day one of my colleagues had quite a major crash in the snow, writing off her car completely and having to go to hospital, on the way to work, and the manager was chuntering about her not coming in! Just proves my theory that they literally want blood from us!
