Because we'll show them how to cheer on the riders better than anyone else?

Its bloody brilliant news!

The Tour-de-France is coming to the UK for three stages next year. Two in Yorkshire and one in London.

Stage one
Leeds - Harewood - Otley - Ilkley - Skipton - Kettlewell - Aysgarth - Hawes - Reeth - Leyburn - Ripon - Harrogate

Stage two
York - Knaresborough - Silsden - Keighley - Haworth - Hebden Bridge - Elland - Huddersfield - Holmfirth - Sheffield

Stage three
Cambridge - Epping Forest - the Olympic Park - the Mall

That is great news. Am planning a trip to the UK in June. Would be fun to watch a stage there rather than here.

PetiteRaleuse · 17/01/2013 10:39

Oh. Next year. I'm coming this year. Oh well. YANBU.

CarpeJugulum · 17/01/2013 10:39

It's brilliant. We're off to see the Tour in France this year (more of a lucky coincidence with location & dates!) and then next year I can see us visiting the in-laws to do the Yorkshire leg Smile

Yay

NewAndSparklyMe · 17/01/2013 10:54

YADNBU. Tour De Yorkshire sounds like a great name to me! Also thought it's excellent news. Smile

Drizzleit · 17/01/2013 12:54

Holm firth to Sheffield! I'm so excited I can't wait!!

IfNotNowThenWhen · 17/01/2013 12:56

Stage One goes right through my area! I can't wait to see it ! Woop woop!

JammySplodger · 17/01/2013 13:00

Cool! Will have to keep an eye out for that!

squoosh · 17/01/2013 13:15

I will never understand cycling as a spectator sport.

MoreBeta · 17/01/2013 13:21

Great news. Beautiful that part of Yorkshire (but then I am from round there) and some seriously good road cycling clubs round there so this is proper testing ground for a proper tour.

DuchessOfAvon · 17/01/2013 13:21

We are sooooo excited. We are going down to the Launch party tonight - allowing the girls to stay up late on a school night too!

DH & I went away for a couple of nights up to Aysgarth after NEw Year and drove the raod that is section of the route from Aysgarth to Skipton. Its a beast of a long climb but stunning scenery. I think we'll watch a bit both days.

I missed the London depart (DH went with mates) becuase DD1 was tiny - but this time, we'll all be there.

Hurrah!

(Btw anyone else queasily anticipating the vileness that will be Lance Armfullofstrongdrugs on Orpah? I read Nicole Cooke's retirment statement and it nearly had me in tears.)

IvorWindybottom · 17/01/2013 14:12

It is coming within a quater of a mile from my house. I have booked my place outside The Yorkshire Victoria in Lockwood allready

cathpip · 17/01/2013 14:15

My sister has booked my spare room, and my dad is parking the caravan on the drive. Am so excited as it is coming through our village!!

Nancy66 · 17/01/2013 14:16

that will be exciting. Hope it's bloody clean this year

Nancy66 · 17/01/2013 14:17

...next year - is it bi-annual?

AnEventfulEvening · 17/01/2013 14:26

No not bi-annual, but they announce the route over a year in advance so they can plan it and hotels can whack their prices up.

Another fan here, day 2 comes very near me. Day 1 with a sprint finish down the Stray looks awesome! I have a tiny "thing" for Mark Cavendish, he certainly calls a spade a spade - and his family comes from Harrogate so it would be a gift to win that stage.

Already registered to be a volunteer, everything crossed that I get an opportunity to be involved, otherwise I'll be staking a spot on Haworth Main Street!!

AnEventfulEvening · 17/01/2013 14:48

ooo how do you register to be a volunteer?
