to be livid at The Hut? (Long and possibly boring)

I ordered an item for ds's main Christmas present from The Hut website halfway through November. The website said it was in stock and I believed that was plenty of time for it to arrive by Christmas. On 28th I got an email saying it had been despatched, to arrive in 5-7 working days. Fair enough I thought, we aren't in a rush. It didn't arrive so I looked on the website where it said to allow 10 working days before contacting them, which I did. This is where it gets fun. I tried phoning the number provided several times, all there was was a recorded message which cut you off after saying they were busy. I had to trawl through the website to find some way of emailing them, it was made as difficult as poss IMO, but I sent a polite email. This was ignored so I sent another telling them I was starting to get worried as it was my son's Christmas present. They sent an email telling me to fill in the attached form in order to get a replacement or refund. There was no attachment! Suspecting stalling tactics by now I emailed to say I would be glad to fill in the form which they had sadly omitted and could they please send it as soon as possible. I heard nothing else, and they still weren't answering the phone so I had to buy a duplicate item from another supplier (which arrived within 2 days so pressie problem sorted at least, even though I could have done without spending another £50).
Anyway, long story shortish, We get to last week, still no item, still no-one on phones so I sent one last email explaining that I'd been forced to buy an alternative present and wanted a full refund as this item was no longer of any use to me, and threatening them with trading standards etc.
Today the bl**dy thing arrives! The despatch date on the parcel is 11th Jan. I'm pretty certain that they never sent one out originally, there was no tracking number or anything. I am livid that they sent this on purpose, knowing I didn't want it, to avoid giving me a refund. Now I've got two of them and I'm not sure what to do. Given their track record I'm not convinced that if I sent it back I would actually get a refund, plus it is quite heavy so would cost a lot in postage.

Can you sell it on ebay/fb selling page or similar?
My first thought (well, after thinking toy had bought your ds a pizza for Xmas) was to just send it back but I agree, their lack of contact suggests they may be lax about refunding too.

Thanks, I had thought about ebay, that's probably what I'll end up doing. Will still have lost out due to sellers fees etc, on top on money I've already spent hanging on the phone in the hope that someone would answer it.
They didn't send a despatch email this time, presumably in the hope that I would think it was the one they claim to have sent in November and that its arrival this week was a big coincidence Hmm.

I don't know what kind of things The Hut sells, but could you take it back to another shop (house of fraser, debenhams etc)without a receipt, claiming it's a duplicate present? Means you'll get store credit, but if it's been reduced by that particular store in the sale you won't get back all that you paid for it.

And of course YANBU. Shocking customer service.

It was one of these. I haven't seen them in the High Street, otherwise a good idea (at least I could have made dh do it Grin)

Sell it on gumtree or the buy and sell sites on fb save money on fees and postage.

Pixel · 15/01/2013 22:39

I'm not on Facebook but will check out Gumtree, ta.
Ah well, a bit of a hassle but I expect I will get shot of it eventually.
It's rubbish though isn't it.

You don't have to keep it! Send it back for a refund.
