About going to the same place on holiday?

This is my first AIBU so don't be too harsh Grin

Last year me and DP went to Portugal for a week's holiday. I'd been to the same resort/town twice before (and stayed in the same hotel once) and it was DP's first time there. We had a lovely time and were both sad to leave.

Now it has come to booking this year's holiday and I think we should go back to the same place, but he disagrees.

My reasons are: it will be a boozy beach/ sunshine holiday somewhere in Europe wherever we go, so not like we will be exploring culture/sightseeing etc. It is probably the best place i've ever been to for this kind of holiday- lively strip but it's not full of massive groups of teenagers like Magaluf or Kavos etc. Everything is close by- beach, strip, shops etc not more than 5 mins away. Lovely, mainly English hotel with nice staff and a HUGE infinity pool. Portugal is (correct me if i'm wrong) hotter than Spain etc.

Basically I think we are lucky to have found such a perfect place for the type of holiday we want. I've been on lots of holidays that seem perfect but when you get there they are just a bit lacking in something. I work hard all year and this is my only break so I want the holiday to really live up to my expectations.

DP, however, feels that we should go somewhere new to 'experience it' and try new things. I've been to a lot of European beachy resorts so I don't feel the need to try new ones just for the sake of it, they are normally pretty similar, except this place in Portugal which really stands out.

Also, all we will be doing is sunbathing and drinking, so I don't see why we should risk ending up in a shithole just for the

Yeah, the Turkish men liked my teenage daughter just a bit too much.

SanityClause · 15/01/2013 14:26

I did that in Olu Deniz Begonia! And we walked up the cliff face at Pamukkule (sp?) to sit in the chalk pools, and smear mud all over ourselves (why?).

You're not even allowed to go in them, now, I believe. You can just look.

MorrisZapp · 15/01/2013 14:31

YANBU

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you can go somewhere you know you'll have a fab time, why risk having a crap time, I say. I'm a serial returner to all sorts of places near and far, same with cafes and restaurants here and abroad.

Life is too short? Yes it is. Way too short to have a crap meal or holiday. So best stick to the tried and tested. Works for me!

BegoniaBampot · 15/01/2013 14:49

Sanityclaus - yes went to Pammukale when you could wander pretty much at will. Even had a midnight swim in a hot spring some of the locals knew about. Turkey is amazing, have I banged on about it enough yet?

The attention lone females can get can be too much and we did suffer and saw many more minor but scary sexual assaults but luckily not everywhere was like that.

Hullygully · 15/01/2013 16:00

oh yes, we had a nightmare (two 18 year old women) travelling round turkey 400 years ago. We had, and this is no exaggeration, a crowd of 20 youths camped outside our Istanbul hotel so they could follow whenever we left, we had a ring of men sit and surround us on the beach and just stare like we were the telly, and woke up several mornings to find random men looking down on us in our hotel room from the high window (they stood on chairs).

Oddly, it was never threatening, just really irritating.

ResolutelyCheeky · 15/01/2013 16:33

Ah, but Hully were you not a model I seem to recall? Far too beautiful, it's your own fault Grin

FellatioNels0n · 15/01/2013 16:35

OK. I have only boys and no men have queued outside my room in the vague hope of a shag in a reeeaaaalllly looooong time. So Turkey's out. Croatia? Supposed to be lovely. Or Slovenia. Like Croatia but with dirndl skirts.

Hullygully · 15/01/2013 16:41

Lake Bled is luvverly

Hullygully · 15/01/2013 16:41

Yes, I forgot my beauty

AnyFucker · 15/01/2013 16:47

Am seriously considering Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. Am scared it will be windy though, the last time I went there it was bloody freezing.

Hullygully · 15/01/2013 16:57

Croatia is lovely too, very easy to get around and lovely islands to wander about to.

Hullygully · 15/01/2013 16:58

I did like Lanzarote, espec Timanfaya, but i wouldn't rush back.

Gozo is lovely, have a wee look at that.

Hullygully · 15/01/2013 16:58

But of course you can't beat Greece. Soz.

BegoniaBampot · 15/01/2013 17:27

I prefer turkey to greece but would give greece another go as it was over 20 years ago. Really fancy corsica, sicily, sardinia, tuscany, the italian lakes and new england and cape cod. Just greedy i guess.

AnyFucker · 15/01/2013 17:30

I have two teenagers. Gozo ain't on the agenda Smile

MrsLouisTheroux · 15/01/2013 17:37

I looks nice and in all honesty if you're not going to sightsee it's as good as anywhere and you might as well go back. Sounds like your DP wants to get out a bit and do more than sunbathe and drink.

Nancy66 · 15/01/2013 17:37

I'd do Greek Islands over Spain, Turkey or Portugal any day.

AnyFucker · 15/01/2013 17:40

Where in Greece has a nice sandy beach, All Inclusive one/two bed apartment that's not too chavvy, sports/entertainment and a busyish but not too rowdy town ?

eh ? eh ?

'cos I can't bloody find it

BegoniaBampot · 15/01/2013 17:45

We looked at david warner last year or nielson. Did sevral places in greece.

Portofino · 15/01/2013 17:45

That place in Halkidiki? The name escapes me at the mo....

AnyFucker · 15/01/2013 17:51

Begonia, it has to be relatively few £££

Hullygully · 15/01/2013 17:52

gawd knows AF! that's not my thang, but I bet someone will know.

BegoniaBampot · 15/01/2013 17:57

Egypt does all inc but would be hot in summer. Canaries had cheapish AI.

Nancy66 · 15/01/2013 17:59

I don't think you get a lot of AI in Greece. Kefalonia maybe?

AnyFucker · 15/01/2013 17:59

Egypt too hot in July and I have a political aversion to holidaying in the Middle East.

canaries, yup, a possibility

Trying to find somewhere in Menorca but it's sooooooooo bloody expensive. Perhaps a week in Skeggie will have to suffice.
