To think MIL putting her nose in DS mouth is totally out of order?

She first did it when DS was 3 weeks old. When I mentioned it to DH he said he saw her do it but she probably wouldn't do it again which she didn't until this afternoon twice!! DS is 6 months but no matter how old he is I don't her or anyone's nose in his mouth AIBU?

No - let her keep doing it! He'll have TEETH soon.

Floggingmolly · 13/01/2013 17:21

Why does she do it, is it to comfort the baby when he's upset, or... Confused
Utterly bizarre thing to do, I'd be repulsed.

LizzieVereker · 13/01/2013 17:21

Probably not the most hygienic thing to do, but not "totally out of order". So YAB a teeny bit U.

LizzieVereker · 13/01/2013 17:23

Having said that, I am probably a bit over relaxed about these matters, having found both my sons sucking on a spaniel's ear at around this age. That would be a real cocker spaniel's ear, btw, not a euphemism for my boob.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 13/01/2013 17:25

I have a photo in my purse of DS1 sucking on DHs nose
(And we're not old!)

pictish · 13/01/2013 17:28

My mum used to do this. Did it bother me? No! Why would it?

With all due respect, please go the grip shop and make a purchase.

Porkster · 13/01/2013 17:31

I have never heard of such a thing.

Most odd!

Putting noses into babies mouths is deemed a normal and acceptable thing? I really don't understand, I've never even heard of that but it seems really absurd!

I don't know if YABU or not, it's the first I've ever heard of such a thing?!

ScentedNappyHag · 13/01/2013 17:31

I used to put the tip of my nose in DD's mouth to see if she was hungry. Looking back on it, I'm quite sure it was a symptom of my lack of sleep, but it seemed perfectly reasonable at the time Grin

I think it is horrible! why does she need to do it?

Narked · 13/01/2013 17:35

That's. Just. Weird.

I don't care whose nose it is. Noses do not belong in mouths.

Narked · 13/01/2013 17:36

I have never heard of or seen anyone do this. It's odd. Odd, odd, odd, odd, odd. Odd.

BlueGoddess · 13/01/2013 17:37

Eww and double eww!

I really cannot understand why anyone would do that so YADNBU!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 13/01/2013 17:39

Lizzie. Arf.

My whole attitude to my PFB's things in mouth changed when he survived the licking of a Jack Russell's bumhole! 'twas a slightly embarrassing call to NHS Direct.

NamingOfParts · 13/01/2013 17:41

It's weird, tell her to stop it.

YANBU

TheTiger · 13/01/2013 17:42

Yuck. YANBU.

MrsMelons · 13/01/2013 17:44

My nephew is 4 months, he grabs peoples cheeks so he can bite their noses, he is teething I think. He gets a really evil look on his face first and it really hurts.

I would find it odd if someone did it on purpose to get the baby to put their nose in its mouth.

Lol. A lot of you, including OP need to get a grip! Unless the baby has a compromised immune system nothing bad is going to happen. And tbh at 6mo baby is probably starting to put a lot of random crap in its mouth anyway.

PrincessWatermelon · 13/01/2013 17:47

That's not on. YANBU. And frankly the argument that they put worse things in their mouths does not change the fact that this is odd and yukky. Once they've 'licked a jack russells bumhole' does everything else become acceptable?

diddl · 13/01/2013 17:47

Well I do remember mine liking to bite/chew noses.

You know-when you hold them quite close & they do it themselves?

Never known anyone to actively put their nose in a baby´s mouth though.

Seems weird to me.

When baby was only 3wks, I can´t believe that you didn´t say anything tbh.

I´d have found it so strange that I`m sure some expletive would have slipped out!

realcoalfire · 13/01/2013 17:52

It's not weird .And it's not your mum inserting her nose into the baby's mouth.Babies mistake noses for nipples and try to latch on to them.We used to have a pink circular uplighter on the ceiling over the bed and the DCs when they were babies would open their mouth thinking it was a big pink nipple dangling there.Hilarious!
