To complain about our travel lodge room?

Dh booked a room for 2 nights in Edinburgh, we are leaving today however, Im just wondering if I've left it too late.

The noise from the traffic outside is bad, you can hear everything, from people talking, to the extreamly loud echo notice from where a car or even worse a lorry. I can even here high heels!!!

We are on 4th floor FFS!!

Our radaotor click, every 5 seconds and every hd hot clicks for 10 seconds, but if we turn it off, its freezing as the building and windows are so old. (As would you expect on Edinburgh) however we paid to have a good night sleep, instead we are both shattered.

Wwyd, or have I left it too late?

Sorry on stoopid iPhone. The radaotor clicks every 30 mins for 10 seconds, and before that clicks every 5 seconds.

Complain, what have you got to lose?

Complain say you had hoped it was a one off but second night was just as bad. If they don't know they can't improve.

I'd say you're too late. If you told them on the first night they could have tried to remedy it by moving you to another room, then if still bad then fair enough complain and expect a refund.
I guess you can tell them for their information, but as you gave them no opportunity to help you get a better sleep I think you would be unreasonable to expect anything more than a "thanks for letting us know" kind of thing to be honest.

Yes like monty said i wouldnt except any compensation just a thanks for letting us know.

It's absolutely not too late and if they have any customer service skills they'll take something off your bill.

Cross check with teh description on the website if there is anything incorrect you can also use that as grounds for complaint. make your complaint at the reception the follow it up in writing.

We complained about the noise at a hotel in Leeds and didn't have to pay. The noise was from other people in the hotel (running, laughing, doors etc). We didn't complain during the night as we were so tired and hoping it will just go.

BTW I can't remember what chain hotel it was, not necessarily Travelodge.

Travelodge aren't good at complaints. We complained about lack of bedding/towels (hotel had run out so we couldn't have showers as we only had 2 hand towels between 4!) and after 3 generalised responses we gave up.

I regularly stay in travel lodges. I have complained occasionally (one room in Birmingham stank to high heaven and they moved us immediately) but I generally don't complain about noise, tired/grubby decor.

I always lower my expectations in a travel lodge as you do get what you pay for. That said, I would ask to be moved if there is a heating problem. Don't think you'll get much joy in complaining after the event.

I stayed in a TL where the shower didn't work. Only found out in the morning - too late to put it right. I mentioned it at reception, received a grumbling acknowledgement but no apology or offers of money off. In too much of a rush to pursue it, life's too short etc.

This is of no use whatsoever, but may help in the future...use Premier Inn. They have a no quibble money back guarantee if you don't get a good night's sleep for whatever reason. I invoked it once when somebody was talking on the pathway outside my room on their mobile and they just handed over the dosh no question. I was impressed. And btw I have no connection whatsover with Premier Inn or whoever it is that owns them, but we now stay there really regularly (not surprisingly) and it is is rare for their standards to fall anything below excellent in just about every area.

Having said that, I once complained about the lack of parking at a Travelodge (it was advertsied as having parking) and got vouchers for another stay for the full value. Clearly I have huge knockers something of a knack when it comes to customer complaints.

Put a review on tripadvisor, then others will know to avoid it/know what to expect.

I know that the St Mary's Street Travelodge in Edinburgh is really disgusting, the bathroom was dirty and the sink broken. The noise is ridiculously loud too. I found the staff there rude and unhelpful. I would suggest instead the Premier Inn on Princes Street where they clearly state 'Bedrooms are insulated to minimise possible noise disturbance in this major city centre location'. We stayed there at a weekend, right on the main street, and it was virtually silent. The facilities were great for a 'budget' hotel and the staff lovely. They even called me the day before we arrived to ask if there was anything they could do for us, which floor we'd prefer, and any information they could provide. That's great service. Travelodge is cheaper but a false economy as they are monumentally crap.

Premier Inn is your friend here. We have used them many times, only had to complain once when they had their heating on during a heatwave. They happily gave me a refund.

We stayed in one in London once not realising it had the underground - though it was above ground - right at the back of our room. So no sleep was in July so was red hot and had to have the window open. When the trains stopped running around 2am they started doing noisy maintenance work! Room was pretty crappy too. Mind it was worth it as we were there to go to St Mary's hosp about frequent miscarriages got some hope and had a successful pregnancy with our DD being born as result! Premier inn are so much better.

I would mention it to them.

Did you pay the £19 a night rate? If so then I wouldn't have expected much!

Travelodge is often not very good.

Travel lodges are dreadful places. I've stayed in one twice. Both pretty ghastly. But they are the option to save money and I don't think there's any point in complaining about things like noise and so on.

I complained about a Travelodge I stayed at in Reading, the shower and shower tray were green and a bit gross. They dealt with it promptly, politely and to my satisfaction. They even gave me some of my money back, which I was not expecting or looking for (I just wanted them to know about it so they could clean it up). So, you have nothing to lose by letting them know about something that was an issue for you so that they can make improvements. I probably wouldn't complain about noise if I'm staying in a city centre though, if it's a budget hotel I don't expect them to have great soundproofing, and if the noise is outside it's out of their control.

Oh by the way, I sent my complaint by email (or the website, can't remember), I usually find that is better than talking to a disgruntled receptionist who is reaching the end of the night shift.
