On phone to energy supplier, on stupid pre payment but that's not the issue. According to my reading over the past 12 months I've used 2000 more units on my night time electricity meter than my daytime one. I don't think that's right!

I have white meter heating but we also have a log burner so we have on heater on low upstairs for 4 or 5 months which charges at night which is why we have the two rates.

That can't be normal surely? I got to bed before the second rate kicks in, everything is off I don't even take advantage of the cheap rate for the dishwasher etc.

So before I go off my heid someone tell me I'm not being unreasonable and get them to check?

MrsKeithRichards · 10/01/2013 15:34

Have you got storage heaters and how does your water heat up?

MrsKeithRichards · 10/01/2013 15:37

One storage heater on for about 5 of those 12 months water not on timer, doesn't heat up at night.

Could you have given the readings in the wrong order? A meter reader did that on mine.

InNeedOfBrandy · 10/01/2013 15:42

I don't know then Confused sounds like there's a mistake somewhere along the lines.

Storage heaters use electricity at night and release it slowly over the day. They are evil, expensive things (in my opinion! I'm sure some make it work for them). So although storage heater not warm at night, it is using electricity.

Are you at home all day?
Nothing is on at my house during the day only when I get home does it start to crank up.
Lights, cooker, heating, etc..... None of this is on while I'm at work all day.
It depends what they consider night really - is it from 7pm or 10pm or midnight?
Might be worth knowing this first.

No because they are on different screens of the meter. Spoke to two different agents. The first passed me on to the energy efficiency people who can't even access accounts they just tell you to switch shit off. The second gave me another mental sounding figure, kept coming out with random numbers and eventually said I can log a complaint for you.

After ten minutes of me saying hmmm I don't think this is right can it be looked into further that was progress.

So passed onto complaint team, she rolled her eyes (I could hear it!) told me to disregard anything they told me, took more figures off my meter and is calling me back.

Yes the rate kicks in at 12 midnight which is when the charging starts, you can hear it click in.

I'm on maternity leave, I've barely left the sofa in 9 months.

Storage heaters aren't the best but they work for us, no gas in property. We've enjoy been using one as we've had the log burner for the past 2 winters
