Is it unreasonable to expect a reasonably clean swing at the park? Gets on my wick seeing children standing in them with dirty shoes / wellies on leaving mud all over them . Some of us have little ones which want / need to sit in the swings. Am I being a swing snob lol?

Kids do not much care about mud on swings, shoes, clothes etc. They tend to be preoccupied with having fun. In this weather i used to take my kids to the park in all in one protective outerwear so it didn't matter how wet and muddy they got.

It's lovely to watch children play creatively with pieces of equipment which are, to all intents and purposes, fairly dull. Mus doesn't kill people (on the whole), take wipes and relax a bit

Bird shit annoys me on swings but not enough to get out wet wipes and im usually over the other side sat down with a book and coffee so don't notice

Op.... Kinda agree with you... Its a surface meant for sitting on. You would have more people agree with you though had you said teenagers standing in swings.... MN doesn't tolerate teens in parks very well Iirc from other threads!!

Swings are for swinging on, they are not a seat it's up to you how you use it.

I was always too scared to stand up on swings as a child, I envied the kids that could stand up and swing.

No the babies/toddlers swings are clearly meant for a child to sit in, hence 4 bars round the sides to keep the child safe, and the leg divider!
