David is speaking well in the Commons and making his sibling look really inadequate.

Without doubt, I probably wouldn't have agreed with his opinions, but at least he actually has some and can articulate them without me wanting to poke him. Hard.

SpicyPear · 08/01/2013 16:42

YANBU. I was devastated when he won and feel I have been proven right in feeling that way.

bowerbird · 08/01/2013 18:53

Couldn't agree more. Ed seems a good person, but he comes across, at best as an earnest Student Union leader, not the would-be-leader of this country.

I think a strong opposition (no matter who's in power) is essential to a strong democracy. Ed simply isn't up to the task.

PessaryPam · 08/01/2013 18:56

I think Ed is brilliant. Hope he stays leader of Labour forever.

sameoldlovebunny · 08/01/2013 18:58

its all so political! Grin
they were out of power, no chance of getting back in, so they couldn't 'waste' a potentially good leader. they had to take an also-ran.
the other clone ... oops, i mean brother...slightly has the edge so he's in reserve ready for the election after next. or indeed for the coming one, if labour have any hope of getting elected.

He seems like a nice guy, but he looks like beaker out the Muppets. I can't win, if Cameron is on tv/radio I want to punch someone and if Ed is on I want to giggle. He just looks a little bit ridiculous Confused (possibly not the best thing for someone wanting to lead the country though!!)

SauvignonBlanche · 08/01/2013 19:27

I'm a big fan of David Miliband.

Hobbitation · 08/01/2013 19:31

I disagree. I don't think Ed is a very powerful leader and think they are going totally the wrong way with some of their policies. But David would have been worse, he was a Blairite and is a Blairalike. It's just a very weak party at the moment in general, amongst a poor shower of politicians from all parties.

I have no particular allegiance to Labour or any other party. But I cannot see or hear Ed Milliband without thinking, Mr Bean! In fact, once I showed DD1 (shes 5) a photo of Ed and asked her who it was. She immediately replied, it's Mr Bean Mummy!!

SpicyPear · 08/01/2013 19:42

There was nothing at all tactical about it. He only won because of support in the archaic union block electoral college, in which union members paying the political levy (but who are not necessarily Labour Party members) are entitled to vote. It was a hideously low turnout, but because of the way it is weighted, they overruled normal members and the Labour MPs

MogTheForgetfulCat · 08/01/2013 19:44

I agree - I heard him being terribly impressive on the Today show not that long after Ed was elected leader.

I forget what the subject was, but he was brilliant, despite chronic provocation from John Humphrys (whom I increasingly find really annoying...) and I thought at the time that the wrong choice had been made.

TranceDaemon · 08/01/2013 19:46

I think the same. It scares me because if Labour don't get there arses into gear and find a leader who actually leads, there's a fair chance come 2015 we will be looking at more misery from Shiny Dave and his chums. Depressing! Hmm

TranceDaemon · 08/01/2013 19:47

*their arses

AmberLeaf · 08/01/2013 19:47

I couldn't believe it when they chose Ed, much prefer David.

I also fancy David a tiny bit

gordyslovesheep · 08/01/2013 19:49

I didnt vote for either of them and I am not a big fan ...I also completely disagree that 'we' felt there was 'no hope' of being elected ...I did and do think we have every chance of winning the next election

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/01/2013 19:51

YADNBU.

David Milliband would be a vastly more suitable leader. He is clever and charismatic and was greatly admired worldwide in his role as Foreign Secretary especially by Hillary Clinton

It was down to the petulance of the Unions that his fuckwit brother ended up with the job Hmm

Dawndonna · 08/01/2013 19:53

The problem is, Ed is definitely the brighter of the brothers, however, he's not as good looking and has that awful adenoidal whine.
David was too close to Blair to be elected. David is also a career politician,
he's there because he thinks he can make something of it, whereas Ed still believes. I actually think that David is about as shallow as a pool of cat piss.

RedToothbrush · 08/01/2013 19:55

I view Ed as nothing more than one of Jim Henson's creations.
David on the other hand is actually electable in my eye.

Not sure I really need to make much more of an argument than that.

RedToothbrush · 08/01/2013 19:56

That said, I wouldn't vote for Labour as long as Ed Balls is anywhere near power.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 08/01/2013 19:57

Sorry, I really don't agree that Ed is the brighter of the two.

OwlCatMouse · 08/01/2013 19:59

Can't actually believe that he'll be header of the labour party by the next election

Christmassparkles · 08/01/2013 20:01

David all the way, Ed is just so not leadership material!
