what are zombie threads? threads that have died a long time ago or threads about zombies?

Arthurfowlersallotment · 05/01/2013 11:45

I'll let you know in about six months.

picketywick · 05/01/2013 11:46

Please let the Mumsnet rule makers make the rules. We are only guests.

MardyBra · 05/01/2013 11:47

uptheamp Threads from months or years ago. I've just spent ages reading a zombie thread about wedding photography to discover it's yesterday's news.

wigglybeezer · 05/01/2013 11:47

No, many people find mumsnet by googling something they are worried about, a link to an old thread comes up and they post on before realising its an idle thread.

uptheamp · 05/01/2013 11:47

lol a pickety

HappyNewBleurgh · 05/01/2013 11:48

I suppose it's ok if you revive and say 'I've revived this thread because...' but to drag it out and continue chatting on it as though 5 years haven't elapsed is a bit strangeConfused

TanteRose · 05/01/2013 11:48

I'm with you Mardy - it does my head in Confused

MardyBra · 05/01/2013 11:48

Oh yes. MNers would never argue with MNHQ over the rules.

Can't really lay down the law.... People are as free to post on them as they are current threads!!

AmberLeaf · 05/01/2013 11:49

No not at all.

The content of thread is often informative and helpful, they don't have a use by date on them.

I think people who post Zombie thread on revived older threads should be banned! ok I don't really, but I do think it makes them look silly.

HappyNewBleurgh · 05/01/2013 11:49

A big sign or something to make it obvious it's an old one would be useful.

10Sylvia5 · 05/01/2013 11:50

Oh dear, Im a newbie and I think Ive just done that (resurrected a zombie thread!)

Dont ban me! Ive only just discovered you all. And I really do want know about anyone who still has SPD

omletta · 05/01/2013 11:50

I agree MardyBra

TanteRose · 05/01/2013 11:50

Would be good if they could be flagged with a colour

Mugofteaforme · 05/01/2013 11:50

So isn't an opinion relevant in time, or do we just close our minds and keep our mouths shut?

IsawFoofyShmoofingSantaClaus · 05/01/2013 11:51

Oh I dont know, poor bastards can't win really.

New to MN, look up a subject, contribute to an old thread,( not knowing its not the 'done thing') gets lambasted.

Starts a new thread on a subject that's been done a zillion times, gets lambasted.

It's a lose/lose.

AmberLeaf · 05/01/2013 11:51

I think all posts being dated is a bit of a give away really. Its not that hard to check the date is it?

If you post without checking the date, you can't really get annoyed at people for bringing up old threads.

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/01/2013 11:52

I agree with Mardy.
Just start a new thread.

MardyBra · 05/01/2013 11:52

Why not start a new one and get new opinions Mugoftea (unless it's about P&T parking)? Otherwise we're posting and debating with people who might not even be here any more.

OP posts:
AmberLeaf · 05/01/2013 11:52

Excellent point ISawFoofy

uptheamp · 05/01/2013 11:53

have to say it doesn't really bother me and if the thread is long and i don't recognise it i do check the date

MardyBra · 05/01/2013 11:53

Do you really check the date of every thread Amber?

WitchOfEndor · 05/01/2013 11:53

Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains

chunkydory · 05/01/2013 11:53

To poster 10Sylvia5: I have spd and have had for nearly three years during and after two pregnancies. I am going out now but pm me if you like we can try and chat over the weekend.
