To ask if you use illegal downloads for your kindle...

Where are they? I downloaded a couple of books and they saved onto my computer, they said they were transferring to the kindle when I pressed the button. But now I can't see them anywhere on the actual kindle. Sad

No, I don't. I don't go into Waterstone's and steal books, so I don't do it online :)

Arisbottle · 04/01/2013 20:47

No, for the same reasons as porridge

CommanderShepard · 04/01/2013 20:48

Nope; no idea how to. Also I am a publisher, so it'd be hypocritical at best.

SwedishEdith · 04/01/2013 20:48

How could you do it? Don't want one, just curious. If Amazon find out, they'll probably just close your account

CMOTDibbler · 04/01/2013 20:49

No, I don't steal books either

Fakebook · 04/01/2013 20:49

Confused love how blasé the thread title is!

Pandemoniaa · 04/01/2013 20:49

Why would you even consider illegal downloads to your Kindle? Or do you, in fact, routinely steal books from Waterstones and other book shops?

cantspel · 04/01/2013 20:50

do you use calibre to download and convert the files? If so once you transfer them they should just appear at the start of the list of books already on your kindle

MrsKeithRichards · 04/01/2013 20:51

Funny I happily steal music but wouldn't dream of stealing a book!

laalala · 04/01/2013 20:51

My kindle isn't linked to amazon so there's no issue there. All my other books have been transferred for me by my brother which is why I can't work out how to do it myself now.

I have standards

annh · 04/01/2013 20:52

Am I naive in not even realising that you could do this? And why would you want to ? Many kindle books are very good value already.

OddBoots · 04/01/2013 20:52

Didn't Amazon completely disable someone's Kindle for doing this a few months ago, I'm sure I read it in one of the papers. Be careful.

Pandemoniaa · 04/01/2013 20:53

Why not?

bamboostalks · 04/01/2013 20:54

No. Wouldn't know how anyway.

Chanatan · 04/01/2013 20:54

And people wonder why they get viruses on their PC.

cantspel · 04/01/2013 20:54

Pandemonia not everyone wants to use amazon and there are plenty of other sites that sell downloads

laalala · 04/01/2013 20:55

Erm I don't have an account because I wasn't planning on buying any books just the downloads my brother showed me to use when he gave me it.

Illegal downloads for Kindle?

Tell me more. Purely for research purposes, of course. I'm from the Daily Mail.

Yes, a Norwegian woman had her account blocked for misusing her kindle - all books deleted. Forever

cantspel · 04/01/2013 20:56

lots of holy types on here when it comes to book sharing.

All those would wouldn't book share a download have you never borrowed a paper book from a mate and read it?

toweraboveyou · 04/01/2013 20:57

The key is to make sure they're a .mobi file or .pdf file. A lot of files you can download are .epub which have to be converted first. If it's a .mobi, the book should just appear in your list, a few seconds after transferring them to your kindle and disconnecting it.

annh · 04/01/2013 20:58

Yes, because the mate has bought the book and paid for it! If she stole the book, I wouldn't be too keen to read it!

porridgewithalmondmilk · 04/01/2013 20:58

can'tspel it isn't the same thing at all - the difference between borrowing a friend's copy that they have paid for and stealing the same book from a shop because "she's paid for it!"
