Should i shave my legs to be Mum of the Bride?

Boardiegirl · 04/01/2013 14:26

I have never shaved any part of my body except my bikini line but my dd id getting married in 71 days and my legs will be out! This is rare as i do not own a dress or skirt.
I know ladies legs are expected to be smooth and hairless. Will the hair grow back thicker? Can i get away with bleaching and how easy/ safe is it?
Or should i just leave it and hope all eyes will be solely on the Happy Couple??

If the mum hasn't even thought that there is an issue, then she is comfortable and I wouldn't ask her to shave her legs.

If the OP is genuine then it looks like she is self-conscious so I would shave as I wouldn't want to be worrying about what others thought all day.

"You need to shave your legs and arm pits if you are wearing a dress."

Do you MerryChristmas ? Because right now I am wearing a dress and I haven't shaved my legs and nothing bad has happened so far. Is someone going to come and arrest me?

openerofjars · 04/01/2013 17:50

My mum never bothered shaving her legs or pits for my wedding. It honestly never occurred to me that she should, seeing as she has never done hair removal. My dad did wear a clean shirt, though, after some anguished pleading on behalf of my sister and me.

I scrub up fairly well, myself, considering my upbringing. Grin

Thanks evryone! I assure u im the OP of both posts!!! Cant c y u doubt it tbh. Im noy young but am young at heart, honest! Let me explain further...i am not hairy, having only ever had 6 hairs in one pit n 14 or so in the other, so pits def not an issue, but dd has mentioned my legs, casually and before she met her h2b, wen we were sunbathing, just saying she doesnt know why ive never shaved them, she knew of no one else who hadnt etc, but not in a nasty way. It made me think...and now i just wanted your opinions, for which i thank u wholeheartedly.
The concensus from most seems to b do wot i feel comfy with. I dnt think hairs thru tights look nice, i WILL b wearing tights but not thick woolly ones lol.
I bought a dress cos i felt its more dressy that trousers, plus i wear smart trs or a suit to work so it wudv felt no different.
Im rly intrigued to learn why some of u thought i was 2 ppl btw??
Altho im imPressed that u think im young!!
Some of your posts have been really informative and heartfelt, keep them coming! I will keep trying to answer your queries :)

Oh, and you don't own Mumsnet, its a forum.
Hth

boomting · 06/01/2013 20:35

Hang on, you don't shave anywhere but your bikini line? What about your underarms? Hmm

If your legs are going to out, or in tights (because I know from bitter experience that leg hair can and does poke out through tights!) then shave them. If you're going to be wearing trousers, then there's no need to bother.

PacificDogwood · 06/01/2013 20:36

This is one of those questions that nobody can decide but you IMO.

I have v pale skin and v dark body hair, so, yes, I'd shave for the occasion, probably even if I were wearing trousers. Actually, I'd have my legs waxed as I cannot stand the regrowth after shaving
That's not to say that you have to.

Hope your DD and you have a great day when it comes.

Boardiegirl · 06/01/2013 20:36

Well thats a little more polite. Thank you for your opinion.

Weird thread this.

Boardiegirl · 06/01/2013 20:46

Thank you Pacific and Boomting Smile if you read earlier it says that i dont have many armpit hairs so dont need to ever shave there.
Its a little concerning that there are problems with regrowth; i guess you refer to itching and maybe catching on things due to being prickly. That was one of my concerns with shaving per se!
I fully understand that this is not a rivetting thread to some mnetters but if i feel that when i read someones OP i dont post on it. Simple.

Thanks again for the helpful posts, they are the reason i posted in the first place Smile

This is funny Grin
Seems you are allowed to carry on.

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 06/01/2013 20:51

If you use depilatory cream instead of a razor then the re-growth isn't quite so blunt.

Boardiegirl · 06/01/2013 21:02

Thats useful IThinkOf, thanks Smile
