Should i shave my legs to be Mum of the Bride?

Boardiegirl · 04/01/2013 14:26

I have never shaved any part of my body except my bikini line but my dd id getting married in 71 days and my legs will be out! This is rare as i do not own a dress or skirt.
I know ladies legs are expected to be smooth and hairless. Will the hair grow back thicker? Can i get away with bleaching and how easy/ safe is it?
Or should i just leave it and hope all eyes will be solely on the Happy Couple??

If you've never shaved your legs I wouldn't start now. My legs are much drier than before shaving and the hairs do seem thicker. I would definitely opt for slightly thicker tights, the hairs won't show though, say, 20 denier tights.

lurkedtoolong · 04/01/2013 15:05

The only part of the MoB's wardrobe I have ever noticed has been the over the top hat. Wear one of those and no-one will care about your legs.

shotofexpresso · 04/01/2013 15:10

If you don't want to shave wear skin coloured tights, but do not go bare legged and hairy on your daughters wedding day pleaasse! Wink

specialsubject · 04/01/2013 15:13

it's basic science that shaving or not has no effect on whether regrowth is thicker.

71 days is March. Unless the wedding is abroad you won't be bare legged, only a serious fashion victim would do that. Wear some dark tights and there's no problem.

BarredfromhavingStella · 04/01/2013 15:18

Nair or wax?
Would never wear a dress or skirt with hairy legs-even with tights.

HollyTheHedgehog · 04/01/2013 15:42

How strange. Her second post seems to be written by someone far younger than one who might be mother of the bride.

Another vote for the grow back thicker is bullshit line.

It's something to to do with the tip of the hair gets rubbed and worn and hence appears finer, then when your stubble grows it looks thicker but it's only because the tip hasn't been worn yet. Give it a couple of weeks and there is no difference.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 04/01/2013 16:25

Good God, bare legs before June?

Won't you be wearing some sort of hosiery? Shock It will be very cold.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 04/01/2013 16:26

WTF is the OP's second post all about? Confused

nkf · 04/01/2013 16:31

I'm with Ariel. Bare legs before June. Not sure about bare legs at a wedding. I think you need to look a bit "finished" at a wedding. And I am the scruffiest person I know.

PumpkinPositive · 04/01/2013 16:34

I am wondering if both of OP's posts have been typed by the same person.

Or she's been possessed in the intervening period.

JustAHolyFool · 04/01/2013 17:05

I honestly don't see what the daughter's feelings have to do with it. I can't imagine that my wedding day would be spoiled by my mother have hair on her legs. I can't imagine I'd even notice.

OliviaPeaceOnMumsnet · 04/01/2013 17:07

Ahem

Nancy66 · 04/01/2013 17:11

Just shave your legs. Will take 90 seconds. Done. Easy.

YouOldSlag · 04/01/2013 17:13

Hairs don't grow back thicker if you shave, it just feels that way because the ends are blunter.

Whatdoiknowanyway · 04/01/2013 17:18

I went to a wedding in the north of Scotland in May. Only 2 women did not have bare legs. One was me. Neither of us lived in Scotland.
It was a very well dressed wedding too.

You need to shave your legs and arm pits if you are wearing a dress.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 04/01/2013 17:43

No one will notice, they'll be looking at the bride. My mum never shaves her legs (not feministy, just doesn't like it) and my SIL has fine, Germanic unshaven pits, and I promise, no-one noticed.

I'd be wearing pretty tights, not bare legs, though! Under opaques I can't see how you'd possibly notice either way and it will be freezing otherwise.
