...."ive just come on my period"

Why do i need to know this info?? Shopping with my cousin yesterday and she nipped to the loo and when she came out thats what she said. I sorta went "erm ok, do you need tampons?" she said "no ive got one in my bag"

Eh?

Also a couple of months ago at a friends house she came out of the loo and said "ive had piles for a few days now and one is bleeding"

Why tell me this???

Am i the only one who doesnt share this sort of info?!

My face would be Hmm and Shock if a friend said that to me!

I'm all for keeping those details very much to myself.

VitoCorleone · 03/01/2013 09:56

With the friend i was pregnant at the time, thought i was going to throw up to be honest

You thought you were going to throw up because your friend mentioned having her period??!
Really? Hmm

How do you cope day to day with such a sensitive and delicate constitution? It must be minefield out there for you!

ShatnersBassoon · 03/01/2013 10:00

Obviously you know you're not the only one who doesn't share everything, or you'd know exactly when every female acquiantance had her period.

Your friend might have been looking for some reassurance or advice about her piles. She might have been worried and thought you could be sensible andunderstanding about something personal and embarrassing.

Your cousin was just telling you her period had started. You didn't need to know, but conversation between friends and family is very rarely conducted on a need to know basis. Perhaps she felt a bit put out by it so let you know something irksome had happened.

I'm not a big sharer, but I wouldn't bat an eyelid if a friend mentioned her haemorrhoids or periods to me.

Bit strong isn't it?

Does it make your tiara pinch?

I probably wouldn't mention my period as a matter of course, but I certainly would if I wasn't feeling so great/moody/upset etc. For instance 'Oh god, what should I have for lunch... not sure what I fancy as I feel so bloated as I'm due on/my period's just started'. Only with reasonably good friends though. Maybe I'm an oversharer.... I dunno, I just like openness about these things as I don't think anything bodily should be 'hidden'.

pictish · 03/01/2013 10:03

I never talk about my period btw, but just because it's not interesting...not because it might offend anyone. I just wouldn't think to mention it. I don't care if someone else does though. I don't require a hanky to clutch, or smelling salts or anything.

atthewelles · 03/01/2013 10:04

The piles thing is a bit ugh.

But friends would often say to me 'oh, I've got my period and I feel shite' or whatever. I don't see the problem.

pictish · 03/01/2013 10:04

Yes - DO define a low woman please.

VitoCorleone · 03/01/2013 10:04

Pictish i actually said the bleeding piles made me feel like i was going to throw up, not the period. I was pregnant and queezy at the time.

Same difference.

fairylightsandtinsel · 03/01/2013 10:06

I have a friend who does this , I do feel it is somewhat "oversharing". She tends to go into detail about heavy/light flow etc and how she feels rubbish. I understand why, if she's explaining why she doesn't want to go out or something, but otherwise its just superfluous.

ShatnersBassoon · 03/01/2013 10:06

Ew, you felt like you were going to vomit? TMI, now I feel sick. And so on...

VitoCorleone · 03/01/2013 10:07

No, not the same differance at all.

I must be very low indeed as I tend to overshare, only with my closest friends though.

I sometimes do with close friends in a 'Bit x's head off - had to apologise, probably PMT as I got my period today - oops' or 'I am so tired/feel shit - hate having my period' or 'Really don't want to fly that week/stay over/whatever as I'll have my period'
