We were at a New Years Eve Party last night at my mum and her partners. I went to the toilet and asked my brother to watch my bag for me. About 20 minutes later I needed to get some money from my purse that I owed someelse there. I couldn't find it in my bag (I'd left it in the car). When I realised where it was I joked with me brother about my relief that he hadn't stolen it. My mums partner then interjected and said " (my brothers name) wouldn't have taken it, could you imagine if he got done for stealing and sent to prison he'd be tossed about in the showers like a dog toy" Shock . Some of his friends then burst into hysterics at this and mum said "you are one you aren't you".

When I told DH about this he said its not funny but after a few drinks some people say things they shouldn't. My brother is only 14 and I think no matter what saying such a thing about your partner's son is totally unacceptable.

it is disgusting and innapropriate but....

asking someone to watch your bag at your mums house and then joking your brother had robbed it?bit wierd.

oldpeculiar · 02/01/2013 13:44

I read this and thought you needed to lighten up, envisaging an adult brother. But then I read he is 14!!! YANBU!

Winterwalk · 02/01/2013 14:00

I agree with Abra1d! In case my post was unclear, I felt the joke between brother and sister was being over analysed. Close family makes jokes like that all the time. I think the joke by the SF was out of order partly because I think jokes involving the suggestion of gang rape are far from funny but mainly because i feel that decent adults should avoid making children the subject of their jokes, especially vulnerable teenagers.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/01/2013 14:28

It was certainly inappropriate. An odd thing for an adult to say to a child. What 14 year old boys say to each other is one thing, what adults say to 14 year old boys is quite another.

TartyMcTart · 02/01/2013 14:34

Oh come on, it was a joke! Most boys of 14 are very streetwise these days and would laugh the comment off and forget about it.

Lighten up you lot!

peanutMD · 02/01/2013 14:40

I think the chances are the guy misjudged the situation and other peoples sense of humour, my family would've pissed themselves at that and maybe it fits in with his families humour too.

Although my brother shares our jokes so it isn't an issue whereas this boy may have at worst been a bit embarrassed.

trapclap · 02/01/2013 14:40

lighten up about gang rape? of a child?
fuck off tarty

GrumpySod · 02/01/2013 14:42

I'm with you Tarty. But hiding this now.
I swear MNetters would like to turn the world into the most dull worthy place.

peanutMD · 02/01/2013 14:43

Trap it was a joke not a wish.

Presumably the bloke didn't think the boy deserved to be gang raped for nicking his sisters purse (not that he did)

TartyMcTart · 02/01/2013 14:43

It obviously depends on how you see things, doesn't it? Luckily I'm not quite so serious as you trap. Shakes head...

JamieandtheMagiTorch · 02/01/2013 14:48

Please. The old rape in the shower gag is as hold as the hils and wasn't funny when it started.

If that makes me dull, so be it.

JamieandtheMagiTorch · 02/01/2013 14:51

Old as the hills

peanutMD · 02/01/2013 14:53

I don't think not finding it funny makes you dull but I do think that assuming it means that the person telling the joke condones gang rape and/or paedophilia is a bit odd.

HollyBerryBush · 02/01/2013 14:56

If a 14yo went to prison it would be a youth offenders, so gang rape by adults not going to happen.

Jeez, the hysteria in this place sometimes is astonishing.

FWIW in a professional capacity, I come across those who have been in a YO and it isn't pleasent what happens in there, especially if they are only 14/15 and 'pretty boys'.

Sadly I am so desensitised now, very little shocks me anymore, especially where children are concerned and what they are capable of.

JamieandtheMagiTorch · 02/01/2013 14:57

That's true peanut

More of a nob than a bastard

.

mindosa · 02/01/2013 14:57

horrible and a bit bullying

picketywick · 02/01/2013 14:59

A bit like that geezer from THE OFFICE when he is trying to shock

seeker · 02/01/2013 15:10

Why on earth did you ask someone to watch your bag at your
mother's? And why make jokes about people stealing things? It all sounds horrible- I must lead a very sheltered life!

well i dont think YABU jokes about rape and rape of a child isn't on what a disgusting man , not funny imo

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2013 15:16

That's exactly what I was thinking seeker.

At a party at my mothers house, I wouldn't dream of asking someone to watch my bag....or ever joke about my brother stealing money. Confused

Cantbelieveitsnotbutter · 02/01/2013 15:22

Oh bless your bro. V insensitive and just not needed

trapclap · 02/01/2013 15:22

Yes, life would be so dull, without rape jokes Hmm

It's ok to joke about it, because he didn't actually wish it to happen?? But it does happen....

Also hiding thread, because its making me mad

SaraBellumHertz · 02/01/2013 15:23

Sorry I can't get over you asking your brother to watch your bag at your mothers...

Winterwalk · 02/01/2013 15:28

Maybe the op's mother and SF had people there that she didn't know. And if his taste in friends is as bad as his jokes...
