To want 2013 the year to treat the elderly better

I,m fuming how the elderly are treated in this country. I want every pisshead tonight to think carefully before they ring 999 for an ambulance.
It discuss me that an elderly person is no longer a priority in a 999 situation but yet tonight drunken fools that are being sick will get 999 speeding to their aid. Take for instance the incident I witnessed of a elderly lady fallen over onto her head and back spliting her head open and bleeding, being sick, left to sit in their own piss and shit as not able to move to go the loo. on calling 999 the ambulance then took a further 1 hour 18 minutes to attend.
It,s the xmas party season and we have been very busy they said, cue my urghhhhh not at the 999 staff but the shere selfishness of pissheads.
Another occassion the same thing happened but this time a cut leg was bleeding, 999 took 2 hours and 23 minutes.
Its bloody disgraceful the elderly are being dismissed and treated in this way and it makes me bloody mad.

That's not really just the elderly though is it, it's the actual sick and hurt.

Unless there was more to it? Like care homes and jobs and pensions etc?

For a number of reasons, my eldery and very ill parents have had to have ambulances out to the house over the past few years. They have always turned up within minutes and the paramedics have never been anything other than professional and kind. I agree with your sentiment entirely and it makes my heart bleed thinking about how the elderly can be treated but just thought I'd offer an alternative pov.

Itsjustafleshwound · 31/12/2012 16:30

Don't you think a better sentiment would be the wish that everyone was treated with respect and kindness??

peaceandlovebunny · 31/12/2012 18:24

yes, i'd like the elderly to be better treated. and some significant elderly need to treat me better, too. they did ok today.

I'd like the sick and vulnerable to be treated better in general, regardless of their age.

I would like the ignorant old man, who rammed his trolley hard into my back this morning to learn some bloody manners. You couldn't miss me, I was in a bright red coat, on crutches for a permanent back problem and he couldn't hold on, oh no, it was better to try to ram me out the way!

I don't think these examples are particularly good ones. I am far from elderly and was 9 years younger when I broke my ankle very badly. I had to wait over an hour for an ambulance. They have to prioritise. They will choose someone having a heart attack or choking over someone who has fallen.
