We passed a Prius (pious) yesterday sporting a bumper sticker which declared in a multi-Pastel hues "born at home". AIBU to think this may be the smuggest car in Great Britain and should fuck off. (Lighthearted thread. Smile)

I'm going to give birth in my garden with the squirrels then!

I like the suggestion that conservation is linked to the home birth types. Like others maybe don't care about things like that?

I'd like a "cut out and proud" sticker, too. Or, rather a "cut out to save the lives of mum and me" sticker.

A sticker like that is hardly essential for safety purposes unlike Baby on Board signs

Aw Soup I probably do have issues. I would have liked a home birth but it was not to be and I got an experience a million miles away from what I hoped for.

I would not ever, ever want to advertise the circumstances surrounding the birth of my first child by sticking a sticker on my car proclaiming them. Seems very odd to me. But why would they put a bumper sticker if they weren't proud of this home birth in some fashion? I don't put statements of fact on my car Confused

There is no safety reason for Baby on Board signs. None at all.

What's the plural for Prius though?
Priuses or Priuii? I think it's Priuses.

I had a homebirth after two hospital ones. Yes I am proud of this for my own sake. It does not make me view anyone else's birth events any differently or in a superior manner.

I get pissed off that people aren't allowed to make any show of being pleased with how things worked out for them without being accused of smugness or being told they can't express their feelings in case it upsets someone for whom things worked out differently. In most cases people aren't being superior or smug, that's just the way "you" view it and it is "your" problem to deal with.

Ooo think I might be a bit of a lentil weaver, but that sticker makes me want to throw my ethically sourced nut roast up! When I was handed my Ds2 after 72 hours of labour, I looked at DH and said good job love is instinctive as I could have really gone off him, now he's 17 think he still needs a t shirt saying my mum says good job love is instinctive! It's been a trying festive season !

Ooh - now I am in a dilemma - I was born at home (as were 5 from my other 6 siblings) but my two were both c. sections! :o

Oh oh ! I have just remembered ! I once saw a sticker that said Pedigree Guinea Pigs on Board. Definitely try hard not to hit that car!!

I had DD2 at home. It only ever comes up when someone asks about her birth. I certainly don't think that homebirth is 'better' or more superior- people should give birth where they feel comfortable. I don't see the point of having a bumper sticker about it but then I'm not a fan of bumper stickers anyway.

Aren't Prius batteries really un-environmentally friendly anyway?

Yes it probably is my problem and I freely admit to that. I don't resent you being proud of your homebirth, not at all. But it seems a strange thing to be proud of when birth is something so far beyond our control. I am not ashamed of my births that weren't what I hoped for. I don't think I did anything wrong. Just as I don't feel I did anything right that resulted in the more straightforward ones.

I suppose it was just the bumpersticker element that made it seem strange to me. Kind of a permanent display. Personally I wouldn't put any sort of sticker on my care announcing that I was, for instance, a graduate. Although I am proud of being one.

I'm sorry it made you feel pissed off. I think that the OP did say that this was a lighthearted thread. When you have had births that end up disastrous outcomes it does smart a little to have to drive behind rainbow 'born at home' stickers. But I think this thread is just a little bit of vent rather than a serious display of outrage!

Soup I'm chuffed for bits with anyone who had the birth they wanted..

I have mates that have given birth at home with no pain relief and I think you double hard girl you.

Bit bumper stickers? Ridic.!

I think a lot of the birth bumper stickers came about as a backlash to ACOG handing out 'home deliveries are for pizza' bumper stickers at their 2009 conference? Not 100% on that but remember reading that around the web somewhere.

I had a homebirth - entirely natural and no pain-relief. This pleased me.

However, I suspect the guy driving behind me on the M4 may be less delighted by my homebirth experience.

Why on earth do you need to announce to the world that you pushed a baby out of your vagina on your kitchen floor?

I had to go and search out where I read it and establish if it's true as it is bandied about on some woo-sites. I've found enough references to it happening though at the 2006 conference. In articles like this

I think that's enough reason for a backlash but I agree it's a bit weird to most people who will read it (any birth bumper sticker apart from Midwife on Call is weird IMO) Cars and vaginas don't mix.
