To ask why people are awake at this ungodly hour

(purely out of interest/boredem)

I can't sleep. I did a silly thing this morning and had a lay in. I didn't have ds and so didn't set my alarm. I woke at 1:15pm (i don't think I've done that since I, well, never, probably not even as a teen, my mother would never have allowed it).
Now I'm paying the consequences, I've been in bed since 11pm and I'm wide awake. I've tossed and turned, I put the telly on, I've read, I've laid like a plank etc but alas nothing.

Why are you awake?

Now the 5 year old is awake which is unheard of

janji · 30/12/2012 03:56

Been ill/bedbound for 3 days sleeping on and off continuously and now can't sleep at all; just watched an old miss marple!

Sirzy · 30/12/2012 03:56

I am asking 3 year old DS the same. One night he will sleep!

Bertrude · 30/12/2012 04:02

8am and at my desk at work Sad

lubeybooby · 30/12/2012 04:06

My sleeping pattern has all gone to cock.

Started with illness, this weird xmas lurgy of aches, headaches, insomnia, cough, cold, sore throat etc... for some reason I can't sleep more than about an hour without waking up for a few hours.

I've also had a load of work to do and a load of stressful tax stuff to catch up on, so these last few days have been a haze of sleeping when I can, and work work work.

I do hope I can get it straightened out again in the new year and when this lurgy has properly gone!

am up because the DCs have been ill for a few days now ... DH is away for work till New Year's Eve and I am feeling anxious, housebound and exhausted but as soon as I go to sleep another DC is ill. I am using the time to imagine what clothes I might pick up in the sales and how I might have my hair cut etc. - i.e. fantasising about being glamorous and not what I'm like now (don't ask). Really hope I get to sleep very soon! Hope everyone (who isn't in a different time zone) gets to sleep soon.

30 weeks preg with twins. had ill-advised second cup of coffee this afternoon to power through the day (we were having boiler replaced which involved all radiators being seen to so there was nowhere for me to retreat to for my customary afternoon nap). went to bed 2330 and at 0200 finally admitted defeat as sleep was definitely not forthcoming. have done a bit of work, but now bored and over-tired. might try bed again now but babies are doing gymnastics in my belly ...

nagynolonger · 30/12/2012 04:13

PinkPetal38 · 30/12/2012 04:13

ArfAPandaTreacle · 30/12/2012 04:14

MammaTJ · 30/12/2012 04:16

I work nights! It messes sleep patterns up.

HibernHoHoHoCaledonian · 30/12/2012 04:18

Had visitors over, brilliant night. They left around 2 hours ago. Tidied up and they watched some TV to wind down. Will get to bed soon!

Rache1S · 30/12/2012 04:26

curiousuze · 30/12/2012 04:30

Bf-ing my newborn; aibu keeps me awake because he takes about an hour to feed and settle, especially the threads that annoy me!

MsNobodyAgain · 30/12/2012 04:37

I can't remember the last time I slept for more than 4 or 5 hours since I had twins.

They are 8!

cfc · 30/12/2012 04:40

Feeding baby aswell here. Seething over selfish husband not taking me out last night as promised (I was a husk of a woman yesterday having dusted off the old pump and removed every last drop of spare milk from myself that i could!).

Now just need to hold up the smiley little fella - baby, not husband - as he's refluxy. mn is fab for passing this time, and i'm getting better at one handed typing on the tablet!

curiousuze · 30/12/2012 04:41

Out of interest how can you tell if a baby has reflux?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 30/12/2012 04:42

Curiousuze, come and find the December postnatal thread if you want company!

I'm feeding 5wo ds and worrying about dp

GothAnneGeddes · 30/12/2012 04:47

Was up doing some uni work. I am a complete night owl and so am often on these threads.

curiousuze · 30/12/2012 04:52

Ooh thanks purple, will do!

MadameCastafiore · 30/12/2012 04:53

Because I stupidly ate mash with cheese in and am lactose intolerant so am on and off the loo! Sorry if tmi but you did ask.

PogoBob · 30/12/2012 04:59

2 reasons here

1 - I'm most likely in labour, waters went at midnight and having mild contractions every 20 minutes or so!
2 - 2yo DD is ill and has been up coughing since half 2 and won't tolerate anyone but me despite all of DH's attempts to settle her.

Autumnchill · 30/12/2012 05:02

Had 5 hours sleep now wide awake on the sofa for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Will drop off back to sleep soon. This is a regular thing now and husband has got use to finding me on the sofa in the morning!

MoreFrontThanBrighton · 30/12/2012 05:11

I had a night of virtually no sleep (2hrs) a few nights ago and it has totally thrown my sleeping out of whack. I'm nodding off by 9.30 then awake at this hour. I must try and stay up later tonight! Maybe a daytime nap will help
