I don't start my new job until mid February so I am rejoining the gym and have the time to go every single day, also include exercise classes and swimming. I will also take up jogging in the evening and eat better.

I currently weigh 12 stone exactly I would love to be around the 10 stone mark by the time I start my new job.

aibu to think this is possible? Or is that just crazy thinking?

what is your new job? supermodel? Grin

BoundandRebound · 29/12/2012 15:46

No

That's over 4lb a week

dementedma · 29/12/2012 15:46

Sounds too ambitious to me tbh. Reckon you could lose over half a stone though which would be a great start.

freshlygroundedcoffer · 29/12/2012 15:46

I'm already a supersize supermodel Wink

  • I worked it out that its around 4lbs a week I'd need to lose.

But you'd be fit toned and probably a lot slimmer so still a good plan

freshlygroundedcoffer · 29/12/2012 15:47

I went away during the summer for work for a month.

And I ended up losing a stone in 2 weeks. Obviously thats not healthy but I was shocked that it was even possible.

dementedma · 29/12/2012 15:48

12 stone is supersize?
Shit, guess I'll have to give that up as a career change then Grin

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 29/12/2012 15:49

I am about the same size, and when I diet / exercise I usually lose 5-7 lbs in the first week and then 2 lbs per week after that. I think 2 stone may be pushing it, but I think a stone is possible.

Montybojangles · 29/12/2012 15:50

Not very healthy. Recommended is 2lb loss a week.
Join www.nutracheck.co.uk its cheaper than other clubs, it works, you can do a 5 day free trial to see if it suits you, and there is a great forum for support. There's also a special offer on at the minute.
Sorry if that sounds like a plug, but it's worked for me and I made some great friends there too.

Good luck with the new job.

ChristmasJubilee · 29/12/2012 15:51

You could lose a stone and with all that exercise you will look two stone lighter! Grin

TrazzleMISTLEtoes · 29/12/2012 15:51

Erm, I've done it so its not impossible.

It was back in pre-DC days when I had spare cash and had a PT. I was in the gym 6 days out of 7.

I had one day off the programme per week when I could eat what I wanted but otherwise I was only allowed a small amount of carbs in the evening I think 2 days a week. Lots of protein and lots of veg. It was bloody hard and I was absolutely exhausted but so worth it!

I wish I had the time and money to do it again as I put the weight back on during pregnancy.

Good luck! And get a heart rate monitor. There is little point being so focused on weight loss without one - you will end up working too hard or not hard enough and not benefitting.

IslaValargeone · 29/12/2012 15:53

4lbs is about 12000 calories, if you were a very obese over eater you would certainly lose quite quickly, but 2 stone isn't a huge amount. You might have a quick start but then ease off to 1 or 2lbs a week. More likely to keep it off slow and steady too rather than doing something you can't stick to.
Best of luck though.

InMySpareTime · 29/12/2012 15:53

What is your BMI? Unless you're morbidly obese (BMI over 40), losing 4lb a week is unfeasible, although to be that obese at 12st you'd have to be about 4ft 6, which is highly unlikely.
No, please don't lose weight that quickly (if you even need to lose that much weight at all)

freshlygroundedcoffer · 29/12/2012 15:55

I'm not sure what my BMI is ... but I do know I was in the overweight category.

I don't think I look overweight, but I would definitely look and feel better if I lost weight.

BikeRunSki · 29/12/2012 15:56

It'd say not. I have just lost 2 stone in three months at between 1.5-5 lbs a week, averaging 2 lbs I reckon. That included running 5 K or walking 5 miles every other day and being very strict (weight in was day after boxing day, I havn't been near a mince pie, Christmas pud, box of chocs etc). Give it a go though. I lost a stone in the first 6 weeks, so you could still be a lot slinkier by the time you start your new job.

sarahseashell · 29/12/2012 15:56

realistically you're talking 6 weeks I'd aim for a stone in that time and if that's going well another stone over following month or two. Why put yourself under so much pressure? (unless it's needing to fit into work clothes?)

InMySpareTime · 29/12/2012 15:59

BMI is Body Mass Index.
Your weight in Kilograms divided by the square of your height in metres.
If weight is W and height is H, it's
W/(H times H)
Healthy range is 18-25, overweight is 25-30, obese is 30-40, morbidly obese is above 40.

tzella · 29/12/2012 15:59

It's a little bit of crazy thinking but the gym, exercise classes and swimming will make you feel fab, and lose some weight, so it's all good Smile

TrazzleMISTLEtoes · 29/12/2012 16:07

inmy it's not unfeasible! It is possible as I said, I've done it. I was pretty overweight although not obese at the time.

ReinDearPrudence · 29/12/2012 16:12

It's possible, especially if you drop carbs, but one to one-and-a-half stone is probably more realistic. At your weight, and with all that exercise, I reckon you'd see big changes. Good luck!

shinebrightlikediamond · 29/12/2012 16:15

I have a weight loss question if anyone can answer.

I've heard cutting out dairy is one of the best things you can do. I do love tea though. Would using soya milk as a sub be any better?

InMySpareTime · 29/12/2012 16:16

I deliberately said unfeasible and not impossible. If OP is at the top end of overweight, moving to a healthy range, it's more likely that if she's trying to go from barely overweight to the bottom of the healthy range or underweight.
Not knowing OP's height or BMI it's difficult to say.

ouryve · 29/12/2012 16:18

It's not healthy and you'd probably just put it back on again as soon as you finished dieting.

BigShinyBaubles · 29/12/2012 16:20

I think 2stone is abit of a long shot but give it a go.
Whatever you lose will make you feel great..good luck Grin

Montybojangles · 29/12/2012 16:21

I believe that it has been shown that increased dairy consumption in a calorie restricted diet actually improves weight loss. Something to do with vitamin d and calcium I think.
