I don't start my new job until mid February so I am rejoining the gym and have the time to go every single day, also include exercise classes and swimming. I will also take up jogging in the evening and eat better.

I currently weigh 12 stone exactly I would love to be around the 10 stone mark by the time I start my new job.

aibu to think this is possible? Or is that just crazy thinking?

Why can I remember that, but forget where I leave my keys, what I went to the shop for...?

Ruprekt · 29/12/2012 16:28

shinebright....... a PT I know said that soya was not good for you but apparently almond milk is good.

Aliglobetrek · 29/12/2012 16:50

You could probably do it on the Atkins or Dukan but it depends if you have the willpower to stick to it. I couldn't!
Triathlon training is great for boosting fitness and toning so you could jog, swim and do spinning classes. Body pump is great for toning too.
I keep saying to myself that I'll restart some training in January. Used to do triathlons before I got pregnant with DS (now 3 mo).

Dogsmom · 29/12/2012 16:55

Yes you could do it, on a diet like Cambridge or Lighterlife, they are tough but do work, I've done both and would recommend Cambridge as it's half the price, I lost 52lbs in 14 weeks last year, the first stone will be off in the first 3 weeks then a stone a month afterwards.

You'll get the doom mongers saying they aren't safe but they are if you follow them properly.

TeamBacon · 29/12/2012 16:55

Yes, definitely possible with strict Atkins - I'd say less than 20g carbs a day without fail, lots of water, and you'll just about manage it. You'll need to exercise too though.

Dogsmom · 29/12/2012 16:57

You do need to have a bmi of over 30 to do them though, there are websites that you can enter your weight/height and it'll tell you what your is.

If it's below 30 you can follow a plan where you have less packs plus an evening meal, you'll still lose weight fast but a teeny bit slower.

thebody · 29/12/2012 17:05

Easily do able if you have the will power to stick to it.

I lost 2.5lb in 3 months. Exercised every day, cycled, swam, ran etc.

NO carbs so cut out all junk food and bread pasta and rice.

Eat fish, salad, chicken and vegs and small portions.

It's fun so enjoy. Weigh yourself every sat am so you don't weaken on fri night and go for it.

specialsubject · 29/12/2012 17:42

you will note that everyone who talks about quick weight loss has put it all back on again as soon as they came off the bonkers diet.

lifestyle change, not diet. if you are 5 foot 8 or over 12 stone is fine anyway. If you aren't, eat a bit less, move a bit more.

FellatioNelson · 29/12/2012 17:44

I wouldn't say it's impossible but it will be very hard indeed and not terribly sensible. You will probably be fainting all over the place and your hair will fall out. Not worth it.

MikeOxardInTheSnow · 29/12/2012 18:10

I have lost 3lbs a week with no exercise, so I think it very much depends on your calorie intake during this time. Try it, if you end up losing even 1 or 1.5 stone, that's still a big success and much closer to your goal than you are now. Good luck.

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/12/2012 18:13

It can be done, but not healthily. You could lose probably just over a stone in that time healthily though.

porridgewithalmondmilk · 29/12/2012 18:14

Have you thought about Cambridge or Lighter Life or similar?

porridgewithalmondmilk · 29/12/2012 18:15

Specialsubject, that isn't true - I lost 4 stone in 2004 with Cambridge (I was 14 stone then.) I've never even gone close to that again, my biggest since then has been 11 and a half so I have always kept two and a half stone of it off.

TrazzleMISTLEtoes · 29/12/2012 19:27

Yup, specialsubject, I kept it off for a year until I fell pregnant. Would have been longer otherwise.

My hair did not fall out.

bigkidsdidit · 29/12/2012 19:30

Prob not, but you could make a bloody good start and look fantastic. And it could all be off by the time you wear summer clothes :)

susanann · 29/12/2012 19:34

It sounds dangerous and it could well all go back on again. 2lb a week is a sensible goal, though you usually loose more than that in the first week. I can understand you want to loose weight but I would say do it safely and sensibly!
Good luck with the weight loss and the job OP.

Anonymumous · 29/12/2012 19:58

It is possible, and you don't need to go crazy. DH has previously lost two stone in two months just doing Atkins, but with no exercise. I lost a stone and a half in four months just going to the gym four or five times a week and not changing my diet at all (and I was only 9 stone 6lbs to begin with). Stands to reason that if you're going to go to the gym every day AND watch what you're eating, you could do it faster!

austenozzy · 29/12/2012 20:08

I lost almost that much in a week, thanks to severe food poisoning. does that help? Grin

Hadenough1978 · 29/12/2012 20:09

If you're absolutely committed determined and focused I think you definitely could. The problem is if you reach a plateau (because 12 stone isn't really a huge amount and losing weight from a smaller frame is hard!) then don't get disheartened.

Have you been 10 stone before? I sometimes think if you have been your goal weight then it can be easier to get there again.

millie30 · 29/12/2012 20:17

I lost a stone in a month last year by eating only low fat protein and slim a soups. It was hard work and unsustainable but worked well as a kick start. But I had lots of headaches and no energy. I was similar weight to you OP but my height put me in the obese category. I think 2 stone would be too much personally.

Bogeyface · 29/12/2012 20:31

Forget weightloss.

If you exercise a lot then you will slim down but may not lose much weight. I found that when I was at the gym 5 times a week I went down 2 dress sizes but only lost half a stone. At one point I was a size 10 but weighed 11.5 stone!

Take your measurements, particularly your waist hips and thighs, as that will show whether you are losing fat.

thenightsky · 29/12/2012 20:34

How old are you? I could have done it in my 20s, but once I hit 45 I have to starve on 800 calories a day for about 3 weeks to see only 2lb weight loss.

hazleweatherfieldgirldetective · 29/12/2012 20:50

I went on a faddy crash diet at 17. I was eating less than 500 calories a day and yes, the weight fell off ridiculously quickly. However, I didn't have a period for eighteen months, my hair, skin and nails were dull and crap and I fainted on a regular basis.

Slow and steady, its far more attainable.

elslil79 · 03/01/2013 23:37

After 2nd baby I weighed 12 1/2. I followed the dukan diet for a week and lost 10lb. Be warned though its hard! Also I found it unsustainable BUT fantastic to give me that kick up the bum I needed to start losing the weight! X

manicinsomniac · 03/01/2013 23:51

It's possible but you would have to starve yourself or go on one of those quick fix diets. And if yous tarted eating normally again you'd put it on again quickly.

I don't think you could lose that much that quickly with a healthy, calorie reduced diet plus exercise.
