What happened to just boring people with a slide show when you arrive home eh?

My MIL rigged her camera up to the TV and made me sit through over 900 pictures of her trip to Africa..................

If I never see a distant, blurry zebra's arse again it will be too soon

Hulababy · 28/12/2012 19:46

Every 5 minutes - yanbu
Once a day or so - yabu. It takes seconds to check in, post a photo or write a status. I have done it before on my phone. Most days I have at least 2 minutes free time, often more, even on the best holidays ever. When DD and Dh have been in the pool at a villa or whatever, then yes - sometimes I have laid by the pool with my Kindle or phone reading, on net, and just generally relaxing.

Hulababy · 28/12/2012 19:51

I also often upload photos of holidays onto FB when I get home. My parents/siblings like to see them and it is one of the easiest ways to show them - esp when not seeing them for a while after getting home. Also if you have friends/family abroad. I sometimes set them to certain FB friends only but generally it's a bit more hassle. I figure that family can look and others can ignore - pretty simple to ignore after all, it's what I do on FB a fair bit! It's also another place to have a back up of photos.

I generally use a proper camera on holiday but sometimes will use my phone camera if I don't want to have the big slr one with me - such as sat by the pool and all that water - eeek - or in a theme park.

onedev · 28/12/2012 19:53

YABU - takes no time at all, especially on a smartphone! I love seeing friends & family photos on FB, especially as we're spread all over the place so makes us all feel much closer!

Hulababy · 28/12/2012 19:54

As for the burglar argument. Well, we were broken into last month. We were in bed. Lights were on, the cars were there. It was also obvious we were at home. However, they wanted DH's car so they deliberately chose to break in when I was there, hoping to get the car keys. As it happens the alarm was set and did go off so they ran off grabbing the nearest keys to them - house keys actually not the car keys they were after

So actually - maybe me advertising that we are not at home might be a good thing! Grin

but no - the burglar thing is not an issue here. I set my FB to friends only too and I am not searchable, and don;t have my home address on there either.

sarahseashell · 28/12/2012 19:57

Shock hulababy how scary that must have been for you all

I think if your friends are reading your posts then all of their friends can see it can't they?

Depends how you set it up generally. I don't allow tagging and not always commenting either, which restricts that. But tbh friends of friends seeing pics doesn't really bther me. As I say I don't put my home details on FB.

Robinredboobs · 28/12/2012 20:06

Ok, so it's no holiday pics, no food, no babies/kids, no drunken nights out. Anything else?

I really don't get why people use Facebook then object to people posting crap on it, as someone upthread said, It's what it is for!!

sarahseashell · 28/12/2012 20:27

no objection to holiday pics in general just can't understand the blow-by-blow account while the actual event itself taking place

pictures of a plate of food I do find a bit [confusing] just don't get it

no objection to kids/babies and would positively welcome the drunken night out pics Wink

You can post anything you like, Robin - don't think you're on my friend list!

I've just deleted fb from my phone for this reason. I want to be happy with my life - not jealous of others or feeling I must make others envious....

Alconleigh · 28/12/2012 21:35

Good lord, do people really find other people's holiday photos interesting? I assumed everyone was doing glazed but polite, as I do.

roooibos · 28/12/2012 21:38

You're not alone. A second to upload, a second to view them. Seems like a good deal.....!

Some people do this instead of sending postcards.

I don't do this but also don't really go on holiday. After we went to anglesey I did upload some pics of ds on the beach (in the rain) but not while we were there.

MoomieAndFreddie · 29/12/2012 11:16

oh yeah sarahseashell wtf is the pictures of food about Confused

my friend posted a pic of something she had made the other day and it honestly looked like vomit

whois · 29/12/2012 12:42

You people are mean.

If if see a photo posted by a friend on holiday, having a nice time in the snow, or sea or whatever then it makes me happy that they are having a good time in Holiday and I look forward to seeing more photos and hearing about the trip when they get back.

If I go skiing and we have a powder day then for sure ill be posting about that when I get back to the chalet. And you can bet that loads of my skier friends will comment or like it as the joy of a powder day is to be shared!

stubbornstains · 29/12/2012 12:51

It's not only holidays. I'm getting constant updates from relatives in the Antipodes about the southern summer. "Hello! Another lovely nice hot day here! We're so hot! We're going to the beach! Did we mention we live by the beach? WE'RE SO HOT!"

I'm biding my time. Hopefully any hot spell we have this summer will coincide with torrential flooding down there. But I won't bore the rest of my FB friends with our lovely days at the beach- I'll just post direct to the offenders' timelines Grin

Hammy02 · 29/12/2012 12:52

YANBU. Once I'm on holiday, mobile is chucked in the safe until I'm on the way to the airport to come home. Family have the contact details of the hotel if there is an emergency.

stubbornstains · 29/12/2012 12:54

Oh, and I like to be kept updated if people's holidays are actually, genuinely interesting. Recently, 3 blokes of my acquaintance drove to Montenegro and back in 10 days, with various shenanigans on the way. That gave me a great deal of vicarious enjoyment.

Fortnight all-inclusive? Meh.

FutTheShuckUp · 29/12/2012 13:25

I love taking pictures of food
Xmas Blush

Findingmyself · 29/12/2012 13:35

YANBU. I feel the same way about Christmas though. Surely if someone is having as perfect a christmas as they make out, they don't need to post photos of their kids' present pile, their tree, 1000 pics of their kids opening presents, pics of dinner, etc etc. It's nauseous. And boring.

I once had someone on my FB friends who posted a whopping FIVE albums of a holiday to Turkey. Bo-ring!

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2012 13:38

Nothing like a nice postcard I always think.
