to find my colleagues tattoo a bit odd?

A new girl has started working, I noticed she had a nice tattoo on her thumb and made a comment about it.

She then went on to say she's got loads more (most aren't visible) and then she said this is my favourite one, lifts up her top and has a quite a large tattoo of Elmo above her stomach.

I commented saying that I loved Sesame Street and how I watched it all the time when I was little.

She commented back saying I've never watched it

Confused

Now I know it's her body and she can do whatever she likes with it but aibu to find it a little bit odd regardless?

That is odd

Maybe she just thought he looked cute when going through the design book or something.......

Is it life size? Xmas Grin Xmas Shock

dolleduptothenines · 28/12/2012 15:25

I mean by her stomach. If she ever decides to have children then her bump will have Elmo's head on it Grin

She does have a photo of it on fb, I'd post but it's abit of a privacy invasion and most probably against MN rules.

A little odd, considering she hasn't ever watched the character in it's main role, but tattoos are (usually) personal to a person, so unless she's trying to persuade you to have one, ignore.

quoteunquote · 28/12/2012 16:04

quite common

ihearsounds · 28/12/2012 16:09

Haha, just been reminded I have to put filters on this laptop. Forgot I recently did a restore. Clicked on the link and after seeing an image on page 2 will never been able to look at Elmo the same again.

quoteunquote · 28/12/2012 16:13

I wonder if the OP recognised any of them?

dolleduptothenines · 28/12/2012 16:20

It might be common tattoo to get.

But it would be odd for me to get a Sponge Bob Square Pants tattoo as I've never once watched the show.

Was she joking?

gettingeasier · 28/12/2012 16:29

Holy shit that Elmo link ???

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/12/2012 16:31

Her body,her choice I guess.

Wouldn't be my choice. Not least because I hated Elmo as a child.

twinklesparkles · 28/12/2012 16:36

Her body her choice

Although......

Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!! Lol ... I wouldve pissed myself laughing if she showed me

NeedlesCuties · 28/12/2012 17:20

Strange.

A girl I know has a huge tattoo the whole length of her forearm, a quote from something.

I asked her once what it said, as I couldn't fully read it due to the angle her arm was at.

She made a sneer, said that it was a private meaning that was important to her and she didn't want to talk about it.

Hmm Confused

Fair enough, but WTF get it tattooed so big?!

The Elmo thing on the belly is just freaky though!

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/12/2012 17:28

Needles I've experience that! A former colleague had a pretty large tattoo done on her inner wrist. Asked her what it said. The reply? A very snappy "it's very personal and none of your business" Shock.

I mean wtf? Get it tattooed somewhere less visible then? And it turns out it said "NAN", as after she adding me on Facebook I could see photos of it all over the place. Which made her reaction when I asked even odder really.

HairyGrotter · 28/12/2012 17:32

Bit odd given she doesn't know the character?!

I have a large 'personal' tattoo on my left forearm and I tell any Tom, dick or Harry who asks what it means (in relation to my 4 year old DD)...how odd that someone would get touchy about it, dickheads haha

judefawley · 28/12/2012 17:32

Elmo, ffs.

That's going to look just gorgeous when she's older.

financialwizard · 28/12/2012 17:33

Bwahahahaha. I have tattoo's but would not get a character tattoo'd on me even if I loved the programme.

I can hide all of mine so not a problem. All these women who are narky about them sound strange too. Like you say if it is that personal either don't have them done or have them done where they are easily covered.

specialsubject · 28/12/2012 17:34

Alisvolatpropiis, that's bizarre - obvious tattoos are about attracting attention! If you want a private one why have it on your wrist?

oh well, if someone wants Elmo on their stomach fair enough, it gave someone some work and may prove Darwin correct.

Panzee · 28/12/2012 17:36

ihearsounds that woman really really likes Elmo! Shock

Toomuchturkeyatendofthedinner · 28/12/2012 17:36

Are you sure it was Elmore and not a tribute to, say, Dave Grohl or someone?! Xmas Wink

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/12/2012 17:36

I know! I was like Hmm. I know lots of people with tattoos, one is a tattoo artist. Never had anyone get so shirty about it. It's not even like I would have asked with a tone I like tattoos. I'd have one were it not for the fact I am incredibly indecisive.

QuickQuickSleigh · 28/12/2012 17:37

What is that woman doing to Elmo? Shock

Toomuchturkeyatendofthedinner · 28/12/2012 17:37

Elmo ffs damn ipad.

GalaxyDisaStar · 28/12/2012 17:40

That is very odd.

I can see why you might have an Elmo tattoo if you were into tattoos (I'm not, don't have any and never would). It might have been a favourite programme and remind you of being young and carefree. Or of special times with family growing up. Or something.

But how odd to have it without watching the show, ever.

I also don't get having massive personal tattoos you won't explain. It's like wearing a cryptic slogan t-shirt and getting cross when people ask. If you don't want people to show an interest, have it somewhere hidden, or have something that won't arose attention - stars or whatever.

GalaxyDisaStar · 28/12/2012 17:41

Alis - that's sort of me too. I know if I had one, in 12 months I would hate it and wish I'd had something different. It was bad enough the time decided to cut a short fringe when I was a student, and that grew out...
