OP posts:
AboutThyme · 01/01/2013 21:39

I've read this thread from start to finish and am very excited now! Had forgotten how much I love Buffy and also forgotten how bloody annoying and whiny and bratty Dawn is!

BertieBotts · 01/01/2013 21:41

I did this, was so excited and then I was really underwhelmed by it :(

InNeedOfBrandy · 01/01/2013 21:42

I'm on season 2 now! Am watching the mummy one at this moment! Watched the first one with spike first appearing a while ago

BananaBubbles · 01/01/2013 21:44

I can't wait for my boxset to arrive, but I've just remembered that it means that I'll have to suffer through who knows how many episodes featuring bloody Riley. I cannot stand him.

AboutThyme · 01/01/2013 21:51

Ugh Riley. Hated him. Him, Dawn and Kennedy can all be bitten!

OhDearNigel · 02/01/2013 00:54

i quite liked Riley. He was a bit solja boy but he was completely in love with Buffy even though he knew it wasn't mutual Yeah, I'm well aware of how lucky I am. Like, lottery lucky. Buffy's like nobody else in the world. When I'm with her, it's like - it's like I'm split in two - half of me is just on fire, goin' crazy if I'm not touching her. The other half is so still and peaceful, just perfectly content. Just knows, this is the one. But she doesn't love me Sad

I also quite liked the whole vamp "prostitute" storyline with him. The bit in Hush where they both meet across their weapons is great. I also love the bit in Restless where he and George Hertzberg (aka Human Adam) are building a fort with pillows. One of the funniest buff moments for me.

OhDearNigel · 02/01/2013 00:58

Ugh Kennedy. I loathe that character. In fact I hate most of the Potentials. For example, the "English" girls in the early potentials episodes, the accents aaaaargh. They already had two perfect and unnoticable English accents on the show (one native in ASH and one acted superbly by James Marsters) so those two girls grate on me hideously.

And Kennedy ???? As far as I am concerned she was the most obvious plot device in the whole of Buffy. Ghastly and gratuitous.

juneybean · 02/01/2013 01:01

Willow deserved someone nice, not some child like Kennedy!

OhDearNigel · 02/01/2013 01:07

oh and the episode where Riley goes off in the helicopter before Buffy realises what's at stake but can't get to him in time to stop him going ? really sad . And top lines for Nicholas Brendan of course when he makes her realise what's at stake. And after when he explains to Anya how he loves her "powerfully, painfully in love" makes me cry every single time I see this episode.

Had to google for that episode title Blush into the woods

EmpressOfThePuddle · 02/01/2013 01:22

The bit that's got to me most so far (I'm halfway through Season 3 so I know there's a lot to come) is Angelus laying the trail for Giles to discover Jenny. It's utterly heartbreaking & utterly brilliant.
And then they go & put Giles finding the rose in the opening credits.

kittensarecute · 02/01/2013 01:54

Firstly, this is my first time posting on here, so hello!
I'm 27 and I love Buffy, rewatch episodes quite often and am currently rewatching the whole series. It is just awesome.

JakeBullet · 02/01/2013 07:20

Hello kitten and welcome Smile.

I am loving this thread, so good to know I am not the only Buffy devotee out there.

Incidentally I suspect that Russell T Davis is a HUGE fan as some of the Dr Who story-lines have aspects of them that make me think of Buffy immediately....and of course he got James Marsters to appear in Torchwood.

Riley never bothered me but when Season 5 came along it did seem as if his sole function was to get his top off every episode. Not that I am complaining mind Grin.

Loved the Ben and Glory storyline and cried buckets at the end of it.

Agree that Dawn was a bit whiny but it seemed to improve over time plus I thought that MT (not attempting to spell her name) was a good actress.

InNeedOfBrandy · 02/01/2013 07:27

Hi kitten Grin

I'm still really surprised how many people still love it, I shouldn't be because it's a great written and acted series. Agree with whoever said up thread about the amazing body language in the acting to.

InNeedOfBrandy · 02/01/2013 19:20

Dc are tucked into bed, tea chocolate biscuits and episode 5 season 2 is about to come on.

Schnarkle · 03/01/2013 14:54

Watching season 3 still here and I've just watched an episode I've never seen before Shock The zeppo, was a good episode too Grin

TwllBach · 03/01/2013 14:56

I've just stopped ironing, paused the DVD and run here to tell you all that I have just cried through Buffy's speech in Prophecy Girl, when she over hears Giles and Angel talking about her dying.

She is brilliant in it, "Will it hurt?"

EmpressOfThePuddle · 03/01/2013 14:57

Yes, Zeppo seemed lightweight at first but then I thought how much Zander develops in it. And doesn't feel the need to boast about stopping the bomb.

TwllBach · 03/01/2013 15:13

Xander is one of the best characters of the series I think. There is nothing 'special' about him, he has no 'powers' and yet he is always there. He is like an anchor.

nillynoon · 03/01/2013 17:19

We are on series 5 and it's bringing back all my teen angst and emotions!

StuntGirl · 03/01/2013 19:13

Glory is AMAZING. She's such a great character, the female counterpart to early Spike with his wanton destruction, they both utterly revel in the mayhem.

Riley was such an insipid abomination, definitely the weakest character written. I didn't think I could dislike a character more, and then Kennedy popped up Grin I am so gutted Whedon couldn't get Amber Benson back, and I think he did the best with what he could but she's such a horrid character. In fact I hate all The Potentials. I just want to scream at them to do as Buffy says!

Other characters always accepted Buffy's leadership more readily than The Potentials, even when they knew nothing about her or her powers. I always wondered if, being 'potential' slayers meant they felt more equal to Buffy and so less likely to do as they were told. Bloody annoying little brats!

JakeBullet · 03/01/2013 19:25

I never liked the whole "Potentials" storyline tbh....well it was okay but the Potentials were dreadful....the faux English accents. They should have had lessons from James Marsters or Juliet
Landau.....both did fabulous English accents.

I haven't seen an episode yet today but I am on Season 2 and I think Juliet Landau is fantastic as Drusilla.

StuntGirl · 03/01/2013 19:28

You lot think James Marsters English accent was good?! Shock

Now Wesley Wyndam-Price, Rogue Demon Hunter...he could do an English accent Grin

Binkybix · 03/01/2013 19:31

Is the actor who plays Wesley Wyndam-Price, Rogue Demon Hunter not English in real life?! His accent is good!

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 03/01/2013 19:46

Alexis Denisof is definitely American, born in Maryland. He's married to Alyson Hannigan (Willow) in real life. They are such a cute couple Grin

I found Druisilla a bit "Dick van Dyke-cockney" at times. James Marsters said he used to go through his lines with Antony Head and ask him to help with pronunciation. IIRC he only had one noticeable slip up when he pronounced "patronise" in the American way ("pay-tronise" instead of "pat-ronise")

JakeBullet · 03/01/2013 19:49

I thought James Marsters did a fair job tbh...a few mispronunciations but on the whole it was good. Juliet Landau's accent was good...yes a bit cockney but I always assumed that this was just the Drusilla character being a bit nuts.

AH apparently sounds much more like Spike in RL...much less "oh golly gosh".
