To wonder how I can ever compare to my amazing SIL

who cooked the perfect turkey & ham meal, had an imaculate house & was just totally amazing in every way. Plus her adorable 2 year old does exactly what she says..

I have to host xmas dinner in 2 years time.. with a normal house, not show house, covered in cat hair.. (&I don't sweep the gravel in the front garden!!) & 2 DD's close in age who fight like cat and dog.. I'm already panicking!! HELP!!

Yuck to the cat hair! That can surely be sorted!

BigShinyBaubles · 26/12/2012 22:19

Got it all prepped from M&S.
Had a team of cleaners in.
DC is a robot...
I'd much rather be at yours because it sounds alot like my house minus the cat hair and 3ds knocking the hell out of each other.

WorraLorraTurkey · 26/12/2012 22:20

Clean up and hope that in 2yrs time your kids will get on a bit better.

It's nice you enjoyed being at your SIL's but if you don't mind me saying, you do sound a bit 'gushy' and also quite hard on yourself.

I take it she's been to your house before and your kids have been there too?

WorraLorraTurkey · 26/12/2012 22:20

You don't need M&S, you have 2 whole years to learn to cook a Sunday roast.

It's all about timing and prep.

Birdsgottafly · 26/12/2012 22:22

I used to think that when it came to DIL's, i would always be at the bottom.

We have just found out that one is abusive and the other having an affair, you don't know what the next two years will bring (i would suggest hoovering up the cat hair, though).

ivykaty44 · 26/12/2012 22:23

in two years your sil dc will be 4 and could be a brat by then and refuse to do anything they are told

get cleaners in
get m&s in

and have a lot of fun

StNiChaolas · 26/12/2012 22:23

Plwase don't worry yourself about something that may or may nit happen in a couple of years time. That way madness lies...

DontCallMeBaby · 26/12/2012 22:24

Some people will be more comfortable in a less than perfect house. Do hoover up the cat hair tho, and try not to get it in the food (I have two moggies, I really do sympathise). Hope for snow (front garden).

Her perfect 2yo and your scrapping DDs will be different children in two years. If not, bribe yours and feed hers lots of sweets.

Be generous with the booze. Personally I'll forgive almost anything if my glass is never empty.

chatnickname2013 · 26/12/2012 22:25

eww to cat hair! If I was your SIL I'd offer to either do that christmas or have it at home by ourselves and miss out the one at yours! yuck! why don't you intend to sort that out before you host christmas???

FestiveElement · 26/12/2012 22:26

Get rid of the cat hair, and then realise its not a competition. You don't actually need to be as good as your SIL.

FunnysFuckingFreezing · 26/12/2012 22:27

your SIL's DC is a freak. No 2yo does just what you say, ever at all! As for the rest, Waitrose ready food all the way, and yes hoover up the cat hair. It makes me sneeze Xmas Grin

Lindsay321 · 26/12/2012 22:28

Erm, are you being a bit tongue in cheek about your post OP?

AlfalfaMum · 26/12/2012 22:30

I bet everyone thinks you're perfect just as you are OP (including sil if she's as lovely as you think she is). Stop comparing yourself, life is too short.
