The excitement of Christmas is over...pressies opened, rubbish cleared away, dinner eaten and washing up done.

The twinkling lights on the tree are just mocking me now.....
I want to take them down!!

Our children think we're awful because the tree comes down on 2 Jan!

I can't imagine what they'd say if it came down the day after Christmas Day!

We have several days of Christmas revelry here; lots of visitors and festive stuff going on all this week.

HollaAtMeSanta · 25/12/2012 18:43

YABVU and wishing your life away - Christmas decorations should stay up until Twelfth Night (6th Jan).

Perhaps you need to invest in nicer decorations for next year? If you move fast you can get them in this sales Xmas Smile

tigerdriverII · 25/12/2012 18:46

Blimey. Ours comes down on twelfth night. That's 6 jan. I love Xmas.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2012 18:48

6th Jan? i will really have had enough way before then.

tigerdriverII · 25/12/2012 18:48

Whoops cross post

Flossiechops · 25/12/2012 18:49

Mine come down New Year's Day. I cannot bear it any longer than that. It's a real one so I saw it into little pieces and chuck it out the front window. Feels good!

tigerdriverII · 25/12/2012 18:50

Mind you, both our trees will be bald by then, not good stickers this year.

onedev · 25/12/2012 20:07

My mum always took ours down on Boxing Day when we were young & I hated it! We do the full 12 days in our house now Grin

SirSugar · 25/12/2012 20:41

several years ago I was working seven days a week and didn't take the decs down until july Xmas Grin

SirSugar · 25/12/2012 20:41

Did I win?

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 25/12/2012 20:42

Ours went up on the 18th, don't want to parade Xmas over DS's birthday which is the 15th, they'll be down on the 1st if not 2nd Jan. that's more than enough for me!

teacherwith2kids · 25/12/2012 21:34

Ours go up on Christmas Eve, come down on Twelfth Night, so really we're just starting to enjoy them...

I can understand that if you put your decorations up really early, then after a month you'd want to take them down - 12.5 days is fine for us, just the coming down falls later for us IYSWIM?

Mosschopz · 25/12/2012 22:00

This seems to me to be a very shallow and materialistic thing to do...not sure why exactly but I feel packing it all away so soon misses the point of Christmas. I make myself wait until 12th night even though I'm back at work and it's a hassle - because that is how it should be I think! But then I only put the decs up a week before.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 25/12/2012 22:03

New Years Eve ours come down. I hate new year so it makes it even worse to come downstairs on the 1st and see the tree etc mocking me.

Anyway, Boxing Day tomorrow, Christmas Day take 2. Off to the in laws to do the whole thing again. Love it.

mumnotmachine · 25/12/2012 22:05

The kids have won, they coming down Thursday.
I've never had decs up on my birthday which is on the weekend

Armi · 25/12/2012 22:10

I take them down on the 1st Jan and have a good clean so we have a fresh start to the New Year.

Verugal · 25/12/2012 22:19

We take ours down at candlemass so have 40 days of celebration for Christmas and epiphany. I am also a slob and have had some Easter decorations up since march 2008.

SoggySummer · 26/12/2012 12:07

My mum always had the decs down between Xmas and NYE and I hated it. Always felt like Xmas came and went in a flash. Now I generally keep them up the 12 nights. We Dont put them up until a week before which seems late by most peoples standards but when I was a kid they only ever went up on Xmas eve, which is apparently tradition.

I used to wait until 12th night, but now usually wait until after new year but before the kids go back to school.

But this year i have been fighting a losing battle with one the cats and the kitten up the bloody trees (my own fault for getting a kitten!!), decorations falling down left right and centre, lights not working, things getting broken etc.

They have been nothing but a bloody pain this year, i will try to hold out as long as i can but can see them coming down soon!!!

Purple2012 · 27/12/2012 13:47

I'm dying to take mine down too. I only have a tree up and of course all the cards. I think I will take them all down tomorrow.
