To hate being told " no worries!"

I am getting increasingly irritated with casual familiarity from shop assistants/waiters etc. and before any one complains I've been in service industries for many years so am not saying I don't welcome friendliness...it's just disrespect I don't like..this includes being called " guys" when I'm with femal friend, being told its ok or " no worries" when I say I don't want a bag/ loyalty card etc..I know it's alright!!! I'm the bloody customer!! Being asked "are you sure" in response to previous reply etc.. But my biggest bug bear, instead of "can I Help you" which is lovely..is "Are you alright there?"..to that one I long to say "yes I'm fine here, but when I stand over there I go all funny"!

Get over yourself.

mellowcat · 24/12/2012 18:23

I'm with CallinDana on this one

notsofrownieface · 24/12/2012 18:23

Great another sales assistant bashing thread. Biscuit

merlottits · 24/12/2012 18:26

Oh my goodness. I've never heard such pretentious crap in my life.
You need some Valium and a time machine back to 1952.

Primadonnagirl · 24/12/2012 18:27

No...you are right completely over myself now..thanks for that..next problem..world peace?!! Ha. I think I made it clear I wasn't sales person bashing..obvs not ..oh well ..just meant to share what's irritating at the mo that's all

Jeeez, bore off.

Hmm
FestiveElement · 24/12/2012 18:29

It's a shame some people are miserable and seem determined to translate helpfulness as disrespect.

Couldn't you just decide to see the positive in people instead of the worst?

Primadonnagirl · 24/12/2012 18:55

Actually..honestly not being sarcastic but thanks for putting me in my place! Just a bit hormonal and feeling sorry for myself and then realised that there are much bigger things in life to feel annoyed about! Suppose it s good to get these petty things off your chest..still think some remarks a bit sharp but take the point ( licks wounds)

I hate grown men using the terms 'sound' and 'nice one'. Makes my skin crawl for some reason. Why??

Feminine · 24/12/2012 18:59

You were easily convinced op Grin

Its alright to feel like you do/did!

I have heard much worse here...don't know why you have been told off actually!

LadyMaryChristmas · 24/12/2012 19:00

Because it's in AIBU, Feminine? Xmas Wink

StuntGirl · 24/12/2012 19:01

I say no worries because when the customer has said "No thanks" to the 27th question I have to ask them its the friendliest, most casual way to acknowledge what they've said before you launch into question 28! Xmas Grin

freddiefrog · 24/12/2012 19:04

I've just realised I say no worries a lot if someone thanks me or is apologising for something Blush

hopkinette · 24/12/2012 19:06

I don't really understand how writing up your bullshit complaint on a forum equates to "getting it off your chest," but whatever floats your boat I guess. Or is that too informal and disrespectful for you?

BillyBollyBrandy · 24/12/2012 19:07

I say

no worries
no problem
fab
cool
aces

I hate myself Grin

FreyaFridays · 24/12/2012 19:07

I really wouldn't worry about it, freddiefrog. Most people have more to focus on in life than analysing the precise words of busy sales assistants trying to be helpful at their most stressful time of the year.

WankinginaWinterWonderland · 24/12/2012 19:07

Oh I say this all the time.... no worries!

Primadonnagirl · 24/12/2012 19:09

It's strange because I have some Australian friends who say no worries all the time and somehow that seems ok!! Suppose it depends whether Im grumpy or not..which obviously I was earlier...it's amazing how honest feedback and big glass of Cava calms you down!

roundtable · 24/12/2012 19:10

Only on mumsnet is there huge list of innocuous words or phrases that you are not allowed to say because it's so annoying.

I seriously think some people have too much thinking time.

"No worries" conjures up visions of stoner dudes on a beach in California. For that reason alone I find it oddly humorous, therefore it doesn't bother me even if uttered by a bored English sales assistant.

(And my femininity isn't affronted if the group I'm with is referred to as 'guys' either...could be much worse!)
