OH is adamant he's having sweetcorn with his roast on Tuesday.

There's no sweetcorn in the freezer and I'm not buying any.

It's just wrong.

He has to go and get it and microwave it.

It does not go with Christmas dinner IMO. If its not appearing in Good Housekeeping Food then it doesn't exist at Christmas.

MadameCastafiore · 23/12/2012 13:54

Sweetcorn does not belong near any sort of roast - actually sweetcorn does not belong on a plate with gravy on it - too sweet - all wrong (although DS and DD would disagree with me and have the bloosy stuff with everything).

Tell him to buy and cook his own!

BigShinyBaubles · 23/12/2012 13:55

Wrap up a tin of Green Giant for him!!

StuntGirl · 23/12/2012 13:55

Is this thread serious or a piss take? Because my answer depends on which one...

WhenSantaGotStuckUpACunnyFunt · 23/12/2012 13:56

I didn't realise there were rules as to what you have with christmas dinner Xmas Confused

TidyDancer · 23/12/2012 14:00

This is a joke isn't it? You wouldn't actually be that anal about sweetcorn.

thesnowmanrocks · 23/12/2012 14:00

Mil used to do that. Every sunday roast dinner and xmas. She couldn't cook btw, and gave me my adversion to cabbage!
She can bake wonderful cakes though!

why can't he ha ve what he wants? No one else need eat it.

Megmog2005 · 23/12/2012 14:03

Gosh, he's strange, whatever next, pilau rice with the turkey? Put a stop to this very unfestive behaviour now OP before Christmas is forever ruined for you.

PoppyWearer · 23/12/2012 14:06

Sweet corn is pretty much the only veg my 4yo DD will eat, so I suspect I'll be zapping some frozen sweet corn for her Christmas dinner.

If your DH doesn't mind eating like a 4yo, that's up to him!

Theicingontop · 23/12/2012 14:07

He puts - wait for it - ketchup on his roast potatoes as well.

I'll make him eat in the kitchen with the cat. Job done.

Xmas Grin

I love sweetcorn with turkey.

Two threads about it - who knew it was such a thorny issue...

Veneto · 23/12/2012 14:08

Hate to break the Christmas dinner rules, but we will be having sweetcorn with our dinner on Tuesday Xmas Smile. Mainly because when DCs (now older teenagers) were younger it was a vegetable they would eat, along with carrots. I think it will be with us forever now.

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 23/12/2012 14:09

How strange your this controlling what your OH has on his plate...

I quite like sweetcorn with a roast, my mum won't do it though Sad

AmberSocks · 23/12/2012 14:10

hmm yanbu to think its disgusting but yabu to try and dictate what he eats.

Buy the poor man some bloody sweetcorn.

amck5700 · 23/12/2012 14:11

I've heard of someone who has no gravy but has heinz beans instead.........and salad cream.......that makes sweetcorn seem pretty normal!

My son like sweetcorn with his, but he does like it straight from the tin so no actual heating or work involved :)

eslteacher · 23/12/2012 14:12

If he pops out to get one of those small tins, and sticks it in the microwave for 30s...why not?

It wouldn't be my choice of Xmas dinner veg though!

Theicingontop · 23/12/2012 14:12

Pfft I wish I could control what he ate, he'd be healthier for it. Alas, no.

There was another thread? Blimey.

Definitely not. It doesn't much belong anywhere to be honest. Toddlers like it.

Megmog2005 · 23/12/2012 14:26

Surely you can't pop a metal tin in a microwave can you? Grin

DowntonSprouts · 23/12/2012 14:27

Yes it is wrong.

But if it's what he wants why not? It's not really a rule, just not traditional.

HazeltheMcWitch · 23/12/2012 14:27

We have sweetcorn, peas and broccoli - all requested by the DC.
We also have the more usual, 'festive' veg also.

It's a feast - people get what they like. Especially if it's a vegetable.
