OH is adamant he's having sweetcorn with his roast on Tuesday.

There's no sweetcorn in the freezer and I'm not buying any.

It's just wrong.

I would agree with you that sweetcorn doesn't belong on a Christmas dinner. But if your OH wants sweetcorn then let him have sweetcorn. DH has mint sauce with roast beef. No telling him that's not right because that's what he likes so he can just get on with it.

TheHoneyDragonsDrunkInTheIvy · 23/12/2012 19:31

I'm having sweetcorn.
And Yorkshires.
And Cauliflower cheese.

So ner.

hugoagogo · 23/12/2012 19:33

Sweetcorn should be banned outright-it is pure evil.

theoriginalandbestrookie · 23/12/2012 19:34

We'll be having sauerkraut and pickles with ours because DH's dad was Latvian and thats what they had with Christmas dinner in there house. Just cook him the sweetcorn, it doesn't smell, takes 4 mins from frozen, can't see waht the problem is.

drownangels · 23/12/2012 19:39

We always have sweetcorn with Christmas dinner/ roast dinnners.

I didn't think it was controvesial!

BendyBobsBrusselsSprouts · 23/12/2012 19:45

Who says what's right or wrong? Blimey a bit of sweetcorn isn't much to ask if he likes it.

WeAreEternal · 23/12/2012 19:49

I don't think sweetcorn belongs in a christmas dinner.

However, sweetcorn is DS's favorite vegetable and he would be very annoyed if he didn't get it. .
I won't be having it though.

JudithOfThePeaceAndGoodwill · 23/12/2012 19:52

The very last bite of Christmas dinner should include bacon, the crispiest bit of a roast potato, half a sprout, some gravy, some cranberry, one pea and one sweetcorn kernel. Perhaps some stuffing - although by that point in the meal, there's usually enough stuffing disintegrated in the gravy.

Yum!

BlackAffronted · 23/12/2012 20:27

NO to sweetcorn with a Christmas dinner!

and my DH wants TWO kinds of potato ... TWO!!!

He isnt getting two. Roasts only.

Lovecat · 23/12/2012 21:09

Sweetcorn is wrong. End of.

Sweetcorn has no place on any plate - indigestible muck!

Why people give it to their young children, I really do not know. Their nappies the following day are full of it!

AmberLeaf · 23/12/2012 21:18

The nappies are full of the skin/husk of the sweetcorn.

AudrinaWhiteChristmasAdare · 23/12/2012 21:24

Bloody hell OP you have just doubled my DS' enjoyment of his Christmas Dinner with this thread. He is only five, autistic with severe food aversion and he had been planning to have, erm, carrots. He adores sweetcorn! I wouldn't have thought of putting any on his tester plate but he'll love it. Merry Christmas!

StuntGirl · 23/12/2012 21:25

We're having two kinds of potatoes. And yorkshire puds. I can't bloody wait.

nurseneedshelp · 23/12/2012 21:31

You can have whatever you want its your dinner!

Were not even having a Xmas dinner!

I refuse to be stuck in the kitchen all day! I'm spending the whole day with my kids

starfishmummy · 23/12/2012 21:37

MIL once served mushy peas with xmas dinner
she'd done potatoes cooked three different ways (roast mash and boiled) and about 100 different sorts of veg which included cauliflower and cauliflower cheese; garden peas and the mushy ones!

ShiftyFades · 23/12/2012 21:45

Sweetcorn goes very well with gravy, don't be a meanie and get some (send him to the crowd ridden shops).
Merry Christmas Wink

DameSaggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/12/2012 21:47

Sweetcorn is lovely but not with gravy so YANBU

Cauliflower cheese and yorkshires are OK by me.

I'm cooking therefore I'm boss.

Ner.

ChristmasTreegles · 23/12/2012 21:50

We'll have sweetcorn, green beans, and carrots. That will cover everyone's personal likes. At least it will be colourful. Xmas Grin

Theicingontop · 24/12/2012 00:49

Lol, I seriously doubt that if it were the other way round people would scream controlling bastard. Its just a different opinion on sweetcorn, shit... Hmm

OH is thrilled he has so much support and is ringing a spousal abuse hotline as we speak.

Xmas Grin

What's so wrong with ketchup on roasties? I love ketchup on nearly EVERYTHINK!

ChristmasSpiritEndorphins · 24/12/2012 01:57

I serve canned peas, they are my ds's favorite veggie. None of us like fresh peas or frozen peas.

One year my mil served sauted sliced onions and peppers with Christmas dinner. That seemed weird, but dh liked them a lot. I saute the alien heads (as we call brussel sprouts) with them though, in a bit of chicken broth.

Softlysoftly · 24/12/2012 02:02

No one who has ever lived with non mains sewerage would go near sweet corn again. Evil stuff.

LTB

ChristmasSpiritEndorphins · 24/12/2012 02:08

Softlysoftly, what do you mean?

Softlysoftly · 24/12/2012 02:14

The outer kernels don't digest.

Non mains sewerage systems (cess pits) have a tendancy to need schlurping out with a tractor and the drains rodding to push through backlog..

Guess what bobs merrily by quite a lot?
