To think most kids will be in bed well before 8 on Christmas Eve

So Channel 4 are showing the Snowman and the snowdog, a sequel to the Snowman but they are showing it at 8pm on Christmas Eve. Now to me this is pretty ridiculous as I know for certain both DC's will be up in bed by 7. This would be perfect for DS before bed on Christmas Eve if only it was on a bit earlier, surely most kids will be in bed before 8?

I think I will tuck mine up in my bed to watch it, then transfer them to their own beds when they are asleep.

OscarPistoriusBitontheside · 23/12/2012 16:40

Thanks OP glad it's not just me!

Meglet · 23/12/2012 16:41

8pm is a bit late isn't it.

Mine are 6 & 4, while they may still be awake it will only be for stories and snuggling down in bed. I don't want them over-excited watching The Snowman. I'll tape it and they can watch it Xmas morning.

miaowmix · 23/12/2012 16:43

Fair enough Hippo, but I expect your DS will be too excited to sleep early Smile.
A word of warning, if you have sensitive kids take note, this is quite an emotional film (DD aged 6 and I have seen it and she sobbed throughout, even though it's technically a happy ending).

CremeEggThief · 23/12/2012 17:56

I could count the number of times my DS, now ten, has been in bed before 8 p.m. in his life on one hand!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/12/2012 18:01

None of mine will be in bed before 9.30 at the earliest and dd is 5, long gone are the days of dc's in bed by 7pm. Even back in the day when mine were all small they all stayed up on Christmas eve, tomorrow we will have a houseful of friends anyway.

MerylStrop · 23/12/2012 18:01

You lucky lucky people

Mine will be up till at least 10 (they are 8, 5 and 2)

But fortunately won't surface till 8.30 or 9.

I agree that it's odd timing - but you can always watch it on 4OD in the morning.

WankinginaWinterWonderland · 23/12/2012 21:31

Has anyone noticed it isn't even the film that is on, it's just some short series, it was on tonight also.... Xmas Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 23/12/2012 22:01

To be honest mine are more likely to be watching the darts on Sky Sports Blush.

AudrinaWhiteChristmasAdare · 23/12/2012 22:05

I started being taken to Midnight Mass at the age of five. Then a Chinese takeaway and opening a present of my choice from under the tree so, yes, quite late.

I bet my parents got a bloody good lie-in when my sister and I were small Envy

Misty9 · 23/12/2012 22:12

I'm quite glad it's on at 8pm - perfect timing for dh and I to watch after putting ds (15mo) to bed Grin

defineme · 23/12/2012 22:21

We'll watch together like we did tonight- 2x 7yrolds- go to bed at 9 in holidays.

WankinginaWinterWonderland · 23/12/2012 22:23

It isn't the film

Well not on my TV anyway.... it is a series 35 minutes maximum!

Morloth · 23/12/2012 22:37

It is 9:30am here and DS1 has asked when he can go to bed. Wink

mrscogon34thstreet · 23/12/2012 22:46

I think the bumsex scene is why it's on a bit later.

colleysmill · 23/12/2012 22:47

Ds 3 has just started watching the original snowman which he loves.

We always wrap up warm and walk into the village for the annual carol concert on the village green round the Christmas tree for 7pm and by the time we've stopped bopping to the brass band and popped into my dsis's for a festive drink on the way back it is always past 8.

I will record it :)

thegreylady · 23/12/2012 22:53

Dgs2 is 3 and will be in bed by 6.45 his six year old brother will follow at 7.15. I will record the programme for Boxing Day when I see them.

CaliforniaSucksSnowballs · 23/12/2012 23:25

Ours always stay up late on Christmas eve, not be design, but just the way it is. We got to SIL and don't arrive till about 5, eat nibbles and socialize and all the kids can open a present, by the time we leave it's about 9 or later and a 1/2 hour drive home, straight to bed for kids (only one left now and she's 7) then she won't wake till at least 8am so we don't get dragged out of bed at 4am to see what Santa bought.

CaliforniaSucksSnowballs · 23/12/2012 23:25

eh gads my spelling!! We go to Sil's

DrCoconut · 23/12/2012 23:31

My DS's have never been in bed early. DS1 has never really gone to bed before 9 and DS2 is about the same as he starts to drop afternoon nap time and settle into a pattern. Surely it's not that late, especially for a holiday when you don't have to be up early the next day!

LucieMay · 23/12/2012 23:50

I highly doubt it! Ds, age 6.11, has gone to bed 11pm last two nights, with it being the hols. We're both night owls and I don't mind, I like the company (I'm an lp). He goes to bed earlier when it's term time.

starfishmummy · 23/12/2012 23:55

Ds usually does to bed at 8, but we will let him stay up for it so that we don't get woken at 3am when he discovers Santa has been like last year......
