To think most kids will be in bed well before 8 on Christmas Eve

So Channel 4 are showing the Snowman and the snowdog, a sequel to the Snowman but they are showing it at 8pm on Christmas Eve. Now to me this is pretty ridiculous as I know for certain both DC's will be up in bed by 7. This would be perfect for DS before bed on Christmas Eve if only it was on a bit earlier, surely most kids will be in bed before 8?

It would have been nice if it had been a bit earlier, 6pm would have been ideal. Don't suppose channel 4 were thinking of my kids when they were doing the scheduling!

We're going to try and record it if we can make some space on the whateveritscalled.

HoHoHokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 23/12/2012 13:38

Mine are 6 and 9 and they will still be up.

JugsMcGee · 23/12/2012 13:39

DS is 1.10 so obviously none the wiser but he will be in bed by 7. I think he'd enjoy it though so will try to catch a repeat. Keeping him up late means he'll wake up really early!

CatchingMockingbirds · 23/12/2012 13:43

Me and DP had planned to get onesies on with DS and all watch the snowman before sending DS to bed tomorrow night but it's on too late. I wondered why they didn't put it on earlier.

FrostyTheSnowSlut · 23/12/2012 13:44

Xmas Grin at the idea of any child being asleep then. I would have thought most children aren't in bed by 8pm on Christmas Eve. Yes probably babies and toddlers but thats not really who its aimed at.

Our DC don't do bedtimes but on Christmas Eve we all stay up until midnight, and they still won't sleep!

Anyway its on at 2pm Xmas day so whats the problem.

PinkFairyTaleOfNewYork · 23/12/2012 13:46

My DS 6 will be going to bed at 8 YANBU

CatchingMockingbirds · 23/12/2012 13:48

The OP said kids would be in the bed Frosty, not that they'd be asleep :o

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 23/12/2012 13:48

Not much chance here. 9/10 probably. Mine are allowed a late night every now and again but that's because they cope well with it. Xmas eve we do a couple of gifts and some late tv before laying Santa's booze and cake out. Makes the next morning a more manageable hour or dd would ne up at 5am!

ChocHobNob · 23/12/2012 13:53

YANBU I thought it was a bit late too. Mine 5 and 7 will be in bed by 8.

KateShmate · 23/12/2012 14:00

Mine will definitely be in bed!
I have 3 3YO's, a 5YO and 6YO and all of them will be in bed before 7. On School nights they are usually so tired that they go up for a bath at 6.30! We are travelling to see family on Xmas day afternoon so we really don't want them to be tired and grumpy!

AmberSocks · 23/12/2012 14:12

can you not just let them go to bed later?

AmberSocks · 23/12/2012 14:13

Actually if they arenot used to it then probably not a good idea, but an hour or so wont make a difference will it?

miaowmix · 23/12/2012 14:20

THis really is sweating the small stuff; if your kids can't stay awake past 8pm I would suggest they are too young to watch the Snowman. It's not aimed at under 3's, so I would have thought most children older than that could stay awake until then?
Or tape it and let them watch the next day, or even watch the showing that is on Cjhristmas Day?

ihearsounds · 23/12/2012 14:22

I just told my children that tomorrow they have to go to bed before 8. 3 looked at me like I had gone insane, and the youngest burst into tears. They are 19, 16,15 and 6.
Not sure what time they will go to bed. Going out for dinner tomorrow not sure what time we will be back. Not bothered, no-one has to get up early and from experience none of them never get up before 9 anyway.

ThisIsMummyPig · 23/12/2012 14:24

Normally my kids would be in bed before then, but on Christmas eve they will still be up (the 4yo anyway, the 2yo may not)

We won't be watching TV though, we will be getting totally overexcited.

Waspie · 23/12/2012 14:32

It is on later than I expected but I'll record it. Even if DS(5) were up at 8pm we wouldn't watch it as it's on Channel 4 so there will be adverts. So much better to watch it later when we can skim past the ads.

I haven't watched an advert in 10 years and I don't intend to start now!

Tailtwister · 23/12/2012 14:58

Ours are 4.5 and 2.5 and are always in bed by 7. I did think it was rather late, but I suppose if they are repeating it on Boxing day then it's not a big deal.

valiumredhead · 23/12/2012 15:13

Ds will be watching it but he is 11!

hippoherostandinghere · 23/12/2012 15:23

Grey I did say I'd be recording it. I also said it would only be my DS 3.9 who would be watching it as my DD is too young for tv.

I thought of all nights of the year Christmas Eve is the one where kids would be in bed early.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 23/12/2012 15:31

No, it's the most exciting night of the year, definitely let mine stay up later than usual.

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 23/12/2012 15:39

Mine (5 and 3) will be in bed but I will recording it and/or let them watch it on Christmas day when it's on just after lunch.

Thank you for reminding me about Room on the Broom

StinkyWicket · 23/12/2012 15:48

YABU. If your children are young enough to not understand Christmas Eve then they won't miss it at 8pm and can watch it on Christmas Day when it is repeated.

If they are old enough, then they won't be in bed anyway!

And you are totally deluded if you think Christmas Eve is when kids are most likely to be in bed early!

ByTheWay1 · 23/12/2012 16:03

Don't think it would be a great thing to watch before bedtime anyhow - in case it has a sad ending.... great mood to set them up for santa coming.....

BackforGood · 23/12/2012 16:22

I think you are underestimating the age of the kids who are looking forward to this. A lot of big kids are too you know and I don't just mean my teens, I mean a lot of adults who remember this being part of Christmas when this first came out.
As others have said though, I think most people have a way of watching stuff on Catch Up or on Sky doofers where you can watch things to suit you now, and, if less technically advanced, then there's always a good old video recorder, and, if all else fails, there are always the repeats that are already scheduled. It's not such a big deal, really, is it?

catkind · 23/12/2012 16:33

My 3 yr old will still be up, sounds good.
though do wonder if the timing is designed for people to watch on catch-up on xmas morning? or for nostalgic parents wrapping presents?
