To think most kids will be in bed well before 8 on Christmas Eve

So Channel 4 are showing the Snowman and the snowdog, a sequel to the Snowman but they are showing it at 8pm on Christmas Eve. Now to me this is pretty ridiculous as I know for certain both DC's will be up in bed by 7. This would be perfect for DS before bed on Christmas Eve if only it was on a bit earlier, surely most kids will be in bed before 8?

It is going to be repeated though. And I think for some people (including us! - DCs aged 5 and 3) 8pm is a good time, it finishes by 8:30pm and then maybe they will sleep a bit later the next morning!

miffybun73 · 21/12/2012 20:57

YANBU, should be on at 7pm at the very latest.

TeamBacon · 21/12/2012 20:57

Nah, I like my evenings too much. He's in bed by 7 most evenings! :)

BertieBotts · 21/12/2012 20:58

I don't see a problem with it - perfect bargaining tool, really. DC are always too excited to sleep on Christmas Eve anyway so if you promise them they can stay up late to watch it as long as they go to bed straight afterwards - win win surely?

hippoherostandinghere · 21/12/2012 20:58

DS 3 will like it as we have the Snowman book, but we will be recording it. I know DD is too young but she doesn't watch TV anyway maybe if she did watch tv she wouldn't do so much bloody squealing

I thought it was an odd time too.

Normal bedtime here is 7pm except Fridays (movie night). On Xmas eve though I don't think we will get to see it :( we will be out and will probably being driven back when it's on.

Will try and watch it on catchup instead.

I am so excited about room on the broom. I had no idea there was going to be another JD production, I actually shrieked when I saw the advert!

NotWankinginaWinterWonderland · 21/12/2012 20:59

Depends what age I think. I have told DS we are watching the Snowman, I had no idea it was on at 8pm, I may let him watch it as he will be awake by 4amish otherwise no doubt!

toomanydaisies · 21/12/2012 21:03

Yanbu. We'll watch it on catch up on Christmas Day! DS is 5. Bedtime is 7pm - no exceptions, especially as he'll be SO excited on Christmas morning that he'll be up earlier than normal. (Much earlier Xmas Smile)

moogalicious · 21/12/2012 21:09

No way will mine be in bed by 8pm Xmas Envy It's a pointless exercise as they won't go to sleep! As it's the holidays, they usually stay up later anyway (and I get a lie in!) They are 5, 7 and 10.

Groovee · 21/12/2012 21:10

Mine were still up at 10pm last year!!!

WinterWinds · 23/12/2012 12:13

Not in this house they wont, i struggled to get DD to sleep before midnight last year, No point sending them to bed at 8pm as they would not sleep!!

Eeebygum · 23/12/2012 12:37

2 year old is always in bed for 7pm and 7 year old is always in bed for 8pm.

wonders if she is cruel

realises she doesn't care as love my peaceful evenings too much

It is a strange time to put it on considering a large proportion of children who it is aimed at will be in bed.

LauriesFairyonthetreeeatsCake · 23/12/2012 12:39

Yes they will and its repeated Christmas Day.

D0oinMeCleanin · 23/12/2012 12:42

Mine won't be. They're allowed up late on Christmas Eve, they're normally in bed by 10pm. Sending them to bed early is pointless, they get too excited to sleep.

freddiefrog · 23/12/2012 12:42

There's absolutely no chance of my 7 and 11 year old being asleep by 8pm on Christmas Eve.

We're going to watch it and then send them up about 9ish with a dvd after doing carrot/mince pie stuff while we sit up until god knows what time waiting for them to fall asleep

DaisyBuchannan · 23/12/2012 12:43

Haha if only. Mine are 2 and 4 and will be wide awake. We'll stick on Toy Story after that, snuggle in PJs and transfer to bed.

MissCoffeeNWine · 23/12/2012 12:46

Mine goes to bed early Christmas Eve, surely the earlier you go to bed the faster Santa comes? 6 yo will likely be in bed for 6pm. No way staying up to 8.30pm, unless we want a overtired Christmas Day.

Startail · 23/12/2012 12:55

Starting, rather than finishing at 8pm is daft.

Even DD1, who has never done child 6.30-7-30 bed, would have been going upstairs 8-8.30

JenaiMathis · 23/12/2012 13:06

Send like an ideal time to me; all cosied up in PJs, then straight to bed.

JenaiMathis · 23/12/2012 13:07

Obv. not for 12yo ds mind, who would do this: Xmas Hmm if I suggested bed before 9 on Christmas Eve.

MrsKeithRichards · 23/12/2012 13:24

We're never in the house before 10pm on Christmas eve! We're at the in laws eating and drinking. Works out perfect ds goes straight to sleep when we get in and I've never been woken up before 8am on Christmas morning!

WeWilsonAMerryChristmas · 23/12/2012 13:27

Totally agree. 6 - 7pm would be perfect as a nice wind-down, then bath and bed. I'm recording it for Christmas day.

strumpetpumpkin · 23/12/2012 13:31

i dont get the problem. Programs are on when theyre on.

schoolgovernor · 23/12/2012 13:31

It's being repeated several times, including earlier times of the day. It's on at 1.55 pm on Channel 4 Christmas Day... Therefore I think this thread is a bit of an over-reaction. Grin

BitofSparklingPerry · 23/12/2012 13:38

To me, times of broadcast are getting pretty irrelevant now anyway. They should just release all programmes for each day at once and people can make their own schedules, and do the normal linear thing for people who like that as well. It is annoying that it will only be released at that time, but tbh we hardly ever watch "live" tv anyway so it would have been recorded/iplayered as it is.
