To expect a hair colour to do what it says on the box?

Bought a Clairol Nice & Easy non-drip foam colorant, which claims to cover 100% of greys in 25 minutes, in light blonde (my natural colour is medium blonde, although I do have the remnants of some highlights still on the ends).

Anyway, the foam is pants; runny, messy and more drippy than any colour I've ever used before. Would have made less mess if I'd used a normal colour. In the dark. Blindfolded. With one arm tied behind my back! Left it on for 25 minutes as instructed, which was a challenge as the ammonia smell is overpowering, and have just washed it off, conditioned and dried.

My hair is, if anything, darker than it was before. In some areas anyway! And the stubborn bit of grey at the front is till there!! GRRRR...

it's not nice. Or easy. Or non-drip. To call it a "foam" is stretching it. It doesn't cover MY bloody grey, and light blonde...? I think not! Looks like I've used a light auburn. And then put dark blonde streaks in!!

AIBU to complain to them? Going to have to buy another dye to sort it out now!

I use superdrug own brand - it covers all my grey.
I have very dark hair though, so I can't say what the lighter shades are like.

YABU about the light.dark blonde - you can't make hair lighter without bleach.

OHforDUCKSchristmasCake · 21/12/2012 15:39

I doubt very much you can hide grey with a light colour. It just wouldnt work. You'd need to go darker. Brown.

Itsnotahoover · 21/12/2012 15:53

So why market it as covering grey and showing a picture of how it will lighten your hair if it isn't going to work? And what's with it going darker? I'm more pissed off with how much bloody mess it made tbh! I've used plenty of home dyes over the years and this is just the worst I've ever used. Will stick to the cheap and cheerful ones next time!

Loreal Casting every time. Clairol is crap

Fairylea · 21/12/2012 16:21

I hated that one as well.

Loreal excellence is the best non drip one in my opinion. But I haven't coloured my hair in 6 months as since having ds I never get enough time to shower luxuriously let alone do my hair colour !!!

Sirzy · 21/12/2012 16:35

The colour on the box will never be exactly how it looks when you have done it because it will differ from person to person.

That said I can't stand the foam dyes

jimblejambles · 21/12/2012 16:40

Perfect 10 covers my stubborn grey hair in light blonde. Superdrugs 10 minute version doesn't cover grey hair in its light colours
