I have no time for UKIP at the best of times, and can't believe how well they are polling. Then I heard this on the news just now - Geoffrey Clark, a UKIP candidate in Kent, wants all foetuses that are found to have Downs Syndrome or Spina bifida to be compulsorily aborted. Link below to this guy's 'personal manifesto'.

AIBU to think that this proves that UKIP are made up of a bunch of loons with mad ideas? The leadership are desperate to appear to be a reasonable mainstream party, just to the right of the tories, but it's clear to me that the majority of their members are ignorant, racist idiots.

I really find it hard to understand why anyone would vote for these people.

To deny and to have concerns are very different

I agree with others on here they are a bunch of racist homophobic cunts and do not think that highly of their members either

PessaryPam · 18/12/2012 23:09

S'OK we don't like you much either.

FreudiansSlipper · 18/12/2012 23:14

And why would that be

throckenholt · 19/12/2012 11:14

The popularity of UKIP shows just how right wing about 20% of the population actually are. They have been traditionally mopped up by the conservative party - but now they have an even more right wing alternative to go to. And the added bonus is they can be openly xenophobic and anti-Europe. They view of reality is very blurred.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/12/2012 11:23

As someone with an immigrant husband UKIP bother me a lot. I just don't trust them. I am glad when their candidates come out with comments like this because it rips through the veneer of respectibility that the like to cloak themselves in.

The acceptable alternative to the BNP for Daily Mail readers maybe?

Totally agree about this place feeling like Germany between the two world wars. I remember being really interested and intrigued by that period of history and wondering what it must have felt like for people living through it.....

Any far right party will flourish during times of economic hardship. Look at Greece and the Golden Dawn.

MoreBeta · 19/12/2012 17:50

David Cameron is the reason so many people are considering voting UKIP.

Honestly, UKIP woudl not exist if Cameron came out and said he was going to have an EU In/Out Referendum.

Are you sure about that

MoreBeta · 19/12/2012 19:09

Well Mr Ashcroft has his view AND he is at pains to point out that the EU is not the burning issue.

However, what is clear is that the fact he feels it necessary to write about the EU issue and quote a poll which suggests the Tory party are really worried by UKIP.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/12/2012 19:15

Yes they are worried but a referedum won't solve the problem that many UKIP supporters have a major issue with immigration rather than the EU.

hazeyjane · 19/12/2012 19:30

Does Ukip still want to 'rexamine inclusion in mainstream schools' and 'support special schools for children with learning disabilities' - ie keep children with learning disabilities out of mainstream education?

Sallyingforth · 19/12/2012 19:33

I briefly met the leader of UKIP. When he walked away I was surprised he didn't leave a slimy trial behind him.
