to think that this proves UKIP are just a bunch of morons?

I have no time for UKIP at the best of times, and can't believe how well they are polling. Then I heard this on the news just now - Geoffrey Clark, a UKIP candidate in Kent, wants all foetuses that are found to have Downs Syndrome or Spina bifida to be compulsorily aborted. Link below to this guy's 'personal manifesto'.

AIBU to think that this proves that UKIP are made up of a bunch of loons with mad ideas? The leadership are desperate to appear to be a reasonable mainstream party, just to the right of the tories, but it's clear to me that the majority of their members are ignorant, racist idiots.

I really find it hard to understand why anyone would vote for these people.

My beef is with your OP which is inaccurate and misleading. I have no idea who you are and haven't recollection of having asked you that question before!

MaryBS · 18/12/2012 19:45

UKIP should distance themselves from him, his views are utterly abhorrent.

squoosh · 18/12/2012 19:45

UKIP are racist extremists.

nightowlmostly · 18/12/2012 19:45

Well you did, a long time ago now to be fair. On a thread about parking of all things!

We'll have to agree to disagree, I'm not spending all night going back and forth with you on this.

90% of the rest of what he wrote was abhorrent in its own right, anyway. Selective abortion probably the least of it.

UKIP & BNP are the only 2 political parties that deny anthropogenic climate change. That alone puts all their members in moron category as far as I'm concerned.

londonone · 18/12/2012 20:01

Wow nightowl I genuinely have no idea what you are on about!

londonone · 18/12/2012 20:06

You have me confused with someone else.

spotsdots · 18/12/2012 20:16

I've never paid attention to UKIP but if someone holding such believes is accepted to represent them, then surely the party does agree with him.

saintlyjimjams · 18/12/2012 20:23

I'm surprised so many are quibbling about the OP's phrasing, rather than discussing the vile views she actually linked to.

FWIW I like the Mencap response They question whether he is fit for office.

Vagaceratops · 18/12/2012 20:25

Exactly.

The story broke this morning, it was all over Twitter and the Mencap FB page.

At 12.30, UKIP made a statement saying that although the policies where his own, he would make an excellent councillor.

At 3pm he had been dismissed. What had changed in that time? Nothing, except more backlash.

BridgetBidet · 18/12/2012 20:26

A similar thing happened near me. UKIP put up a candidate Steve Moxon. He was sacked over comments he made justifying Anders Breviks slaughter in Norway and agreeing with Brevik's manifesto.

www.guardian.co.uk/uk/the-northerner/2012/may/02/ukip-steve-moxon-whistleblower-home-office-beverley-hughes

He also wrote a book called the woman racket which basically criticised any rights women have such as maternity leave and rights within divorce etc.

He was previously involved with the Tories when he whistleblew over irregularities in the immigration department he worked in but they distanced themselves when they realised he was a class A racist nutter.

He really is a piece of shit, he was deselected but any party who would even consider being involved with someone like that is completely discredited in my eyes.

londonone · 18/12/2012 20:29

I think that most people agree that the views she is talking about are so unacceptable they are not exactly worth discussion.

squoosh · 18/12/2012 20:31

The fact that UKIP declared he would make an excellent councillor despite stressing that they were his own personal views constitute a tacit endorsement of his beliefs by the party in my eyes.

According to the New Statesman, in defence of his policy, Geoffrey Clark said

They are a burden on the state. The NHS is no longer affordable and some services have to be cut. I?m tired of politicians saying we should cut managers.

BridgetBidet · 18/12/2012 20:45

MrsDeVere I don't think it's the fact that his views are relevant to UKIPs policies or the assumption that UKIP agrees with these views. Rather my concern is the fact that UKIP seem to make a habit of putting up candidates with extreme views, who quite often seem to have crossed the line into fruit loop territory. It doesn't say much for their credibility if these are the best candidates they can field and they're not sufficiently capable of vetting their own candidates to weed out the loonys. It doesn't fill me with confidence in their ability to administrate capably should they gain any sort of political power.

DrCoconut · 18/12/2012 20:47

I'm afraid I have major concerns about UKIP. My step dad is part asian and my little brother is therefore mixed race to twats people who are racist. I've seen various things to suggest that they are rather intolerant and doing a good job of trying to seem moderate, that is until they get in power. Look back to another time when a country was in turmoil, high unemployment, fear about foreigners, disillusionment with the previous governments etc. Someone stepped up to the plate to offer solutions...............................

toofattorun · 18/12/2012 20:50

I concur with brandybutter. Just use Cunt. Then you don't have to google words like moron to ensure they don't historically mean something else. Fuck me....

yanbu
but do your really think they are the only party that think stuff like this?
look at our existing abortion times for disability........up to birth

FreudiansSlipper · 18/12/2012 21:46

Those that support UKIP have you read their policies have you listened to all that farage has to say. They are nothing but a posher version of the BNP sadly many are taken in by this and their main stance which is supposedly against European laws

itspeanuts · 18/12/2012 22:29

Have to agree drcoconut. I watched the series on BBC 2 about Hitler recently and my first thought was the similarities to now...

MoreBeta · 18/12/2012 22:43

"....deny anthropogenic climate change. That alone puts all their members in moron category as far as I'm concerned."

Really?

The fact that someone has legitimate concerns about climate change science means they are 'morons'?

Really?
