To think that those people who seem genuinely concerned about the apocalypse need to get a grip?

Seriously. No-one really believes this, do they? Not really? it's up there with Santa and the tooth fairy - it's not real. And yet I've seen posts from people on here saying they are genuinely worried! Hmm

Even if it were real, you won't know about it because... ... ... you'll be dead! Grin

I think that anyone with anxiety that bad should contact their GP & ask for a referral for specialist therapy; because it isn't normal & they shouldn't have to cope with it alone.

(I'm serious, i have MH illness myself).

I don't think people actually believe in it.. Probably the opposite, know it is bollocks but just can't help feeling terrified anyway because of their completely irrational anxiety disorders.

It's a horrible way to feel and taking the piss out of them is very nasty.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 17/12/2012 13:35

wait a minute! santa isnt real? Shock

i would like my very own daryl to rescue me too... dh can fend for himself Grin

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 17/12/2012 13:42

i for one am very scared about it and have lost sleep over it and had severe panic attacks.
it is not funny nor is it in the same leauge as believing in santa.
i am as of today getting my anxiety undet control.

Changeforthrday · 17/12/2012 14:03

Hah. I have just booked theatre tickets for the 22nd. I laugh in the face of the apocalypse theorists.

MurderOfGoths · 17/12/2012 14:09

A bit cruel to be laughing at people with mental health problems Hmm

However on a more lighthearted note I was talking to my dad the other day about what the plural of apocalypse is? As we seem to have had so many of them this year.

ophelia275 · 17/12/2012 14:20

My friend has just told me her husband has taken Friday off work "just in case" Shock (she isn't worried herself).

cozietoesie · 17/12/2012 14:22

I just don't talk about it in real life. I learned my lesson many years ago when my DB and I were having a laughfest over some particularly apocalyptic (for those days) piece of nuclear stand-offery being covered on televeision. My little sis - we'd forgotten she was in the room - suddenly burst into tears and said 'I'm frightened, I'm frightened.'

If it happens - and Yellowstone, I'm not talking to you - then it happens. Best not to dwell on it though.

Changeforthrday · 17/12/2012 14:30

I remember learning at the tender age of 4 that scientist believed the earth would at some point crash into the sun. I was very concerned and have to go for a lie down. I distinctly remember it!

quoteunquote · 17/12/2012 14:33

Could everyone worried about the world ending, drop off their valuables with me for safe keeping.

cozietoesie · 17/12/2012 14:35

As long as you swap them for extra gin!

I've just been invited to an event and tour here.

LadyBeagleBaublesandBells · 17/12/2012 14:51

Latara I agree with you.
Anybody that takes this seriously should go to their GP.
I suffer from depression, but I can't take this nonsense seriously and like to have a laugh about it.
And I hope that will help those with anxiety issues.
The more people that can laugh it off on here the better. It's not going to happen people, and if it does, you won't know about it.
And January is coming too, the most miserable time of the year.
TBH I'd prefer the apocalypse to my credit card bills which will be sky high.
Happy Christmas to you all Grin.

NASA has said that there is no need to take tension and people should lead their lives as they were leading. Smile

AngelGabrielWreakinHavoc · 17/12/2012 14:58

I had a great message from an ebay customer from the states asking me to cancel his transaction as he didnt think it would get there in time before he had to pack up his wife and kids in his RV and move inland before the 'end of the world'.

I shit you not!

wannaBe · 17/12/2012 15:07

"i for one am very scared about it and have lost sleep over it and had severe panic attacks.
it is not funny nor is it in the same leauge as believing in santa." It is entirely in the same league as believing in Santa. It's not real.

I agree with whoever it was above that said it's far better to make light of it than to pander to people's anxieties. Anxiety is horrible I have no doubt about that. But people need to seek professional help with that, not call those who don't pander to their irational and frankly ridiculous fears unreasonable for doing so.

OP posts:
EldritchCleavage · 17/12/2012 15:45

I don't for one moment want to mock people with anxiety. However, I refuse to take the Mayan apocalypse/Nibiru apocalypse/any other apocalypse theories seriously because some people with anxiety get very affected by them. Anxiety is real, and horrible, and debilitating. But these catastrophe predictions are risible, and it does no one any good to say otherwise.

MadBanners · 17/12/2012 16:27

Oh, I am very sensible and do not believe it at all, and am all prepared and wrapped for Christmas, despite me saying In January I was not doing anything until the day was over, just in case.

However there is a teeny, tiny very irrational part of me that might be just a little bit worried, which i may have mentioned to dh, who gave me a lecture.

So now, I have said to him, if the world does indeed end, the very last thing he hears will be me, channelling Dr Sheldon Cooper and saying ""I informed you thusly"!

MoomieAndFreddie · 17/12/2012 16:32

i am not concerned that the world will end on saturday (is is saturday?)

but i do think there are seem to more and more strange things happening in the world lately, so i actually think the end of the world will happen soon. when i say soon, i mean in the next few hundred years.
