To think that those people who seem genuinely concerned about the apocalypse need to get a grip?

Seriously. No-one really believes this, do they? Not really? it's up there with Santa and the tooth fairy - it's not real. And yet I've seen posts from people on here saying they are genuinely worried! Hmm

Even if it were real, you won't know about it because... ... ... you'll be dead! Grin

put my mind at rest. People have always predicted the end of the world!!! Why would they be right now????

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/12/2012 16:58

I don't think a lot of people who all think the world will end on Friday on one thread is a good idea.

Rocking has had advise and offers of support on this thread. If she needs or wants more help, she is, as an adult, capable of asking for it.

The world is not going to end on Friday. Science says so. I'd put more faith in science than I would in religious/psychic/generally weird nutters who have a loose grip on reality at the best of times.

There is no evidence at all that the world will turn into a fireball on Friday or that anything else bad will happen.

EldritchCleavage · 18/12/2012 17:02

nothing on here has helped Rocking.

That's for Rocking to say, surely. And plenty of us have tried to reach out to Rocking, not mock her or joke about her anxieties. See my post of 14:53.

RockingAroundTheBloodyXmasTree · 18/12/2012 17:19

i think a support thread would be good, there is a few mumsnetters who are having the same worries as i am.
You have all been so very kind and lovely in reassuring me and i think i know deep down nothing is going to happen, its just the worry of it all.

Rocking I was really worried as well, until I seen people on here talking about ATS and although there are thousands of different threads on there about how people think the world is going to end and other stuff, there is an equal amount of people posting on the threads de-bunking the ideas and giving the actual reasons why each thing will not happen.

Just don't do what I did and concentrate on all the ones about why it will happen, be un-biased and look at both sides of the arguments and you will see that there is lots of proof of things not happening but no proof of them going to happen.

Unless it's a NWO, still believe that a bit.

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/12/2012 18:48

NWO?

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 18/12/2012 18:53

New world order. I don't actually think it will happen, just it's the only "conspiracy" I have really come across that doesn't have a shit load of evidence to say it wont happen.

Theicingontop · 18/12/2012 19:03

NWO is happening, has been happening since the 1700's. Not all conspiracies are just theories.

Theicingontop · 18/12/2012 19:04

Oh, sorry 'in my opinion'...

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 18/12/2012 19:06

Gah Icing! Going to re-check the OFRS, the day where half the world actually think the world is going to end is the perfect day for it to happen.

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/12/2012 19:07

So there is a secret order that is planning to over throw every single government in the world and they have been planning this for over 300 years? Hmm

Is it just me who thinks they can't be very organised if it has taken them over three hundred years?

I highly doubt they will manage to pull themselves together by Friday. They've waited 300 years already, what's a few hundred years more to them Grin

Theicingontop · 18/12/2012 19:10

Ohh no no, not by Friday. I have no doubt this 21st business is hogwash. But the NWO, wow. If you haven't looked into it, do. It's bloody eye-opening. And I'm not a tin-hat I swear.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 18/12/2012 19:11

I dunno, I suppose if it is going to happen, it is going to have to happen at some point. I guess Friday is as good a day as any. Wink

Probably wont though. :o

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 18/12/2012 19:13

Icing Glad it's not just me that was sucked in by reading about it!

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/12/2012 19:14

I will tell my Mum about it. She will read up on it on my behalf and then relay the info to me in a series of barely literate text messages.

It will make a change from hearing about Nostradamus, solar flares, the collapse of society, natural disasters such as super volcanoes and the earths magnetic core shifting and aliens. Oh and leprechauns too, she believes in those too.

Theicingontop · 18/12/2012 19:15

And it's not about over-throwing the governments, it's about controlling them. Virtually every country in the world, bar a few, have currency that is controlled by central banks, for example the US federal reserve, that is controlled and owned by private banking cartel. Google "the eight families". Do you think a government stands a chance against corruption when the entire economy rests on the shoulders of a few select individuals?

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 18/12/2012 19:16

I guess it would fall under "the collapse of society".

MrsJREwing · 19/12/2012 01:13

Well these power crazed NWO folk will be pissed off if the world ends after 300 years of hard work.

I don't think there is even a way in which the world will end, the prediction is shite. why tell us if we can't stop it?

EllieArroway · 19/12/2012 01:26

Are the NWO people the same as the lizard ones? Or are they a different group?

D0oin I expect she drives you barmy, but your mum sounds a hoot! Could she tell us where the leprechauns hide their gold so we can go and get some? :)

sieglinde · 19/12/2012 09:01

There is a useful Wikipedia article on the NWO. It's the natural descendant of its ugly and deadly predecessor, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Like the Protocols, it's utter rubbish, I'm afraid. There are always people who want to believe conspiracy theories because they are simple and comprehensible, like fiction, whereas history is mostly a matter of people bumbling about, choosing wrongly or luckily, staggering from mess to mess. We don't like that. We like answers. But there never are answers. I have looked seriously at every historical period form ancient Athens through the 15th century and the Civil Wars here and in the US, and there are no worldwide conspiracies, only human beings with all their energy and idiocy.

I see this comment as supportive in that I would like to be able to free people from worry about lizards and so on. Don't ask what evidence there is against something. Ask what evidence there is FOR something.

MrsJREwing · 19/12/2012 09:10

Nothing wrong with a conspiracy theory, look at the ex chief whipp, he had a theory, it looks like people in power colluded and fabricated evidence for their own agenda, no longer a theory there now a conspiracy if news reports are correct.

sieglinde · 19/12/2012 09:17

Yes, but that's not a BIG worldwide conspiracy, JREwing. It was the big apocalyptic kind I meant.

EllieArroway · 19/12/2012 10:11

Nothing wrong with a conspiracy theory..............except that most of them are complete and total nonsense. Demonstrably so.

sieglinde · 19/12/2012 10:13

ALL of the big ones are nonsense, Ellie. If accompanied by the adjectives 'world' or 'worldwide', stand by for flying shit.
