Oh, are fish vegetables now? I never knew, must get me some

Purple2012 · 17/12/2012 09:06

I'm a vegetarian and don't eat fish.

Sirzy · 17/12/2012 09:08

3 fish roast sounds horrible!

I have never understood how you can be a vegetarian and eat fish. (I know they are really called peacasarians (sp))

LauriesFairyonthetreeeatsCake · 17/12/2012 09:09

Pescatarians.

Bit of a crucial error by Morrisons.

Paiviaso · 17/12/2012 09:10

Vegetarians don't eat fish! And I never found Christmas dinner dull at all, even though I never ate the "main event" as it were. Everything else is very yummmm.

Not sure they've managed to snag their target audience here.

AudrinaWhiteChristmasAdare · 17/12/2012 09:10

fishmingers Grin

Sounds grim.

ErikNorseman · 17/12/2012 09:11

Fishmingers Grin

What a bunch of dopes. My Christmas dinner will be delicious and does not involve dead flesh, of either the fish or fowl variety.

StNiChaolas · 17/12/2012 09:11

I wonder if Morrison's thought pescatarian was a bit too many syllables and therefore confuddling?

Sigh.

gordyslovesheep · 17/12/2012 09:13

Fishminger is DD1's fave insult to DD2 (who owns a fish) ...DD2 calls her a pigbrat in return

fish are not veg - Morrisons are idiots

ihavenonameonhere · 17/12/2012 09:13

Is this on their advert? Ive not seen it but wont be happy if thats what they are advertising

BahSaidPaschaHumbug · 17/12/2012 09:15

Perhaps 3-fish is actually a type of swede?

AudrinaWhiteChristmasAdare · 17/12/2012 09:15

That and it's a little bit wanky. I can't stomach meat but can eat some fish and never use it. I just say non-meat eater if I absolutely have to.

You wouldn't have fish with roast potatoes and the other Christmas dinner trimmings anyway. Nothing boring about this

worldgonecrazy · 17/12/2012 09:17

How can Christmas dinner be dull when it's an excuse to have every fricking vegetable under the sun? Seriously?

Sprouts, crinkly cabbage, peas, carrots, cauliflower, roasties, parsnips, swede mash, bread sauce, horseradish, cranberry sauce. I have no idea how meat eaters have room on their plate for turkey.

My dad always puts the meat on the bottom and all the veg and stuffing and sausages on top in a big pile. If you find your way to the turkey you will be too full to eat it.

ENormaSnob · 17/12/2012 09:26

Morrisons are stupid.

BreconBeBuggered · 17/12/2012 09:28

Why haven't I seen this? We love a good moan about adverts in our house. I only know the one with the frazzled pre-Christmas woman.

flow4 · 17/12/2012 09:29

Awwww bless 'em. They've really messed that one up, haven't they?! :)

(Audrina, salmon en croute goes very nicely with roasties, and cranberry sauce! Grin )

AudrinaWhiteChristmasAdare · 17/12/2012 09:32

Thank you flow - you have sorted Boxing Day for me. There will be plenty of potatoes and sauce leftover. Was wondering what to eat while the others tuck into their lump of gammon Smile

samandi · 17/12/2012 09:37

There are plenty of nice vegetarian - actual vegetarian - meals that work as an "alternative" to Christmas dinner. Nut roasts, chestnut loaf, pies, tarts plus all the yummy vegetables - potatoes, parsnips, greens etc. etc.

I wouldn't think of a three fish roast as vegetarian. Tbh I love fish but for Christmas dinner I would prefer something with a richer nuttier flavour. Hm, a nice fish pie might just do, but not really.

SolidGoldFrankensteinandmurgh · 17/12/2012 09:41

I have always been a bit boggled by 'vegetarians' who eat fish. I eat anything and everything myself which is a logically consistent position, as is vegetarianism. And a three fish roast sounds pretty horrible.

However, there is a great temptation to suggest to any vegetarians who do find Christmas dinner boring that they could just eat some meat

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast · 17/12/2012 09:44

Even as one of those pesky pescatarians they've managed to annoy me with that !

We're a veggie family and love our nut roast, roasties, and all the extras at Christmas.

Sometimes I might have a bit of fish when I'm feeling a bit rebellious and out with friends, but I wouldn't feel I was missing out in the slightest without it on Christmas Day. Personally I feel a nutty contribution is perfect with all the traditional extras and a nice bit of cranberry sauce. Yum Xmas Smile

StuntGirl · 17/12/2012 09:52

What's boring about a veggie Christmas dinner? Just leaves more room for all those roasties and veg and yorkshire puds and cake!

Notcontent · 17/12/2012 10:11

This kind of thing really annoys me too. I am no longer vegetarian, but used to be. I have noticed that there seem to be quite a lot of people who claim to be vegetarian but eat fish. Fish are animals too - so there is no difference!!!!

AudrinaWhiteChristmasAdare · 17/12/2012 10:18

I think a lot of them are like me. Told as children that they were vegetarian because they didn't eat meat even though it was pure preference and not an ethical choice. Unlike me, they don't realise how much they piss-off actual vegetarians by saying they are.
