This would be my ideal Christmas dinner. With all the veggie trimmings, of course! Grin

dingdongMadHairDayonhigh · 17/12/2012 18:11

Morrisons are idiots. Even saying non meat eaters implies vegetarians.

Vegetarians never eat fish, and those of you saying you call yourself veggies but eat fish for ease sake are making life more difficult for the real veggies. I'm in hospital and a couple of times have had the veggie option presented as fish ( have been in two weeks now and educated the serving staff who have generally been nice about it) - but this is to someone told to eat lots of fat and protein as I got malnourished from pneumonia. Some days my dinner was a piece of bread.

Ewww at the trout on pasta! Reminds me of when i ordered a vegetarian soup at a posh hotel and it was full of chunks of fish. Yerkkkk.

mantlepiece · 17/12/2012 18:12

My sister made a nut roast last Christmas for her veggie daughter...it was not a success.
Could anyone give a link to a yummy vegetarian centrepiece that would go with traditional Christmas vegetables?

Would be very grateful!

StuntGirl · 17/12/2012 18:12

If more people who are pescetarian identified themselves as such and explained when people asked (as vegetarians often have to do anyway...) maybe the term would be more widely understood.

It would be like me describing myself as vegan; there are similarities but its absolutely not the same thing.

TheProvincialLady · 17/12/2012 18:23

I have something like mushroom wellington or chestnut pate en croute. Basically anything wrapped in pastry. I have never found Christmas dinner dull. How could anyone, when there is stuffing and bread sauce and roast potatoes all on the same plate?

Morrisons are exceptionally dim witted aren't they? And 3 fish roast sounds repulsive, whether or not you eat fish.

Yummity yum yum. All good! I will have my fave - veggie haggis with all the lovely veg.

Changeforthrday · 17/12/2012 18:34

I once had a roast chicken leg plumped on top of pasta with a tomato sauce (in France). We explained - again - that as a veggie I didn't eat any form of meat, fish, poultry, etc.. It was taken away and replaced by... A huge plate of all sorts of sausages. I suppose it was my own fault for not mentioning by name pork and veal.

SantasBigBaubles · 17/12/2012 18:35

Yay! fish grow on trees now!? wanders in search of a prawn tree

Changeforthrday · 17/12/2012 18:37

It's a bush, silly. They grow on bushes.

I don't think you can really say that pescatarians are making things harder for vegetarians dingdong ? If I was going to eat fish I would only use the word veggie like this to my friends "We're usually veggie at home but I do quite like a bit of fish occasionally" that is there would always be a "but" in the sentence if I used the word veggie, but was eating fish on that occasion. I found out today that the word pescatarian was only coined in 1996, whereas the word vegetarian has been used since the 1840's IIRC, so not surprising if people not so familiar with it's meaning I guess.
Anyway many people, like Morrisons, are exceedingly slow at catching on aren't they ?
Those providing food, especially professionally as a service, should just get more used to checking their guests individual dietary requirements and preferences.

"We've looked into this for you and can confirm that this advert was for 'non meat eaters' rather than vegetarians. We apologise for any confusion and have passed your feedback on to our Advertising Team for future reference."

Is not a suitable response, fish is meat. I'm sick of this stupid mistake and feel sorry for the vegetarians who turn up at some christmas event this year to have this fish put in front of them.

Therefore, I reported them to the ASA. There may be no legal definition of vegetarian, but according the the FSA this advert is very border line in regards to trade descriptions. Plus reporting them made me feel a bit better. If anyone else wants to join in, the ASA complaint form is really quick and easy to complete and can be found here .

StNiChaolas · 17/12/2012 21:52

FreshGoose, are you sure?

I'm positive they said vegetatrians.

Confused

"I don't think you can really say that pescatarians are making things harder for vegetarians"

Nope. Thick people make life harder for vegetarians not pescatarians. The difference is not a difficult concept to understand in the slightest.

McChristmasPants2012 · 17/12/2012 22:33

the three fish thing sound lovely.

I prefer fish to meat, love seafood like mussels, squid, prawns ect.

however fish is not sutiable for people who are vegitarian.

ConfusedPixieThinksSheIsAnElf · 17/12/2012 22:42

I swear heard vegetarian too, I wouldn't have listened to it otherwise or thought anything of it. Maybe they changed it quickly, I heard the ad at 7 this morning, haven't heard it before today, other people are complaining on their facebook about it too (and comments are being deleted or hidden by the looks of things, as they appear on the google cache but not the actual page).

sashh · 17/12/2012 22:55

sashh: People with a dairy intolerance can have eggs...

I know, didn't you see the other fred?

AnnIonicIsoTronic · 17/12/2012 22:58

I heard vegetarian!!

(bunch of twits!)

littleducks · 17/12/2012 23:03

I overheard a conversation the other day:

A: Oh so, you are vegetarian?
B: Yes
C: But you eat fish don't you?
B: Yes
C: So you are pesectarian?
B: No whats that? I'm not vegan, I drink milk and eat eggs, I'm vegetarian, only eat fish no animals

Confused
ConfusedPixieThinksSheIsAnElf · 17/12/2012 23:06

sashh: I saw a fred a few weeks back about it, sorry, were you being sarcy? Blush I'm shit at working out who is being serious or not... Blush

RE the ad being on today, apparently it has been about longer (first complaints about it I have seen are from the 10th), it's the first morrisons ad I've ever heard weirdly! Confused It's on twitter a bit too.

giraffesCantFlyLikeReindeer · 23/12/2012 00:00

There are 2 different morrisons adverts - one says vegetarians and one says non meat eaters.
