To be concerned that the shooter in the US keeps being referred to as Aspergers

This worries me, I feel like the press are referring to the shooter's Aspergers are the reason for him flipping out and killing the children and teachers. He clearly had mental issues but Aspergers is not likely to be the issue.

There are so many people with Aspergers or are on the autistic spectrum but this does not go hand in hand with mental issues in terms of agression.

I feel this could end up in a nasty backlash.

tbh this happens in smaller ways all the time, I have complained about it several times. A thread appears about somebody who is rude, antisocial, selfish, cruel - people post saying "could he have Aspergers?"

My son isn't any of those things. It's hurtful, but mostly it's frightening. To think that my son is going out into a world where that is what people believe. We've encountered a few people (parents at his school - not the kids, the kids are mainly fine) who assume that AS means "arsehole".

I wish people would THINK before they speak. If you are peddling this ignorant tripe, even just to score a point on a thread, then YOU are a danger to people with AS, who are much more vulnerable and at risk than you and your precious NT children. Stop it. Angry

I don't know why he needs to ne labelled with anything other than Cold Blooded Killer. All this talk of "goth" "nerd" Aspergers or whatever else feels like that's the reason he did what he did. It isn't. Clearly he had a reason for killing these poor children and their teachers but it wasn't due to being a goth or a nerd. I admit I know very little about Aspergers but I know that my DPs 2 cousins who suffer with it are not violent and wouldnt harm anyone.

It's sad and disgusting that some people working with Autstic children have such negative opinions of them, and are pretty ignorant. Yes Brevjk Did not have any disability and was perfectly nt how do you justify that!

Someone mentioned the pharmaceutical companies. M
I did read that in the majority of school shootings the killer was on medication which had been altered in some way shortly before (change of brand, change iof dose). That might not mean much - psychiatrists do fiddle with medication quite a bit, but one report I read was linking the shootings to one particular brand (can't remember which). It's something that IMO should be considered/investigated but good luck to whoever chooses that route.
