I am 41 weeks pregnant and now my sex life seems to be open for discussion among my friends and family.

A compleatly unrelated facebook status (something along the lines of "the hobbit was an amazing film!") led to 3 or 4 friends and family memebers giving me advice on how to encourage the baby to come out with a couple of people directly asking if we had tried sex, I didn't yeply.

Tonight I was talking on skype with my mum and D-sis (9) and my mum outright asked me if me and DP had tried sex to bring labour on. My D-sis looked a little embarrassed and I said "mother we have tried everything"

Am I being a prude about this? Is it ok to ask someone if they recently had sex when a child is present?

Xmas Shock. I'd have simply said, 'Mother!'. No, it's not ok IMO. It was TMI for your 9 yo D-sis - (and a little TMI for your Mother too).

(having said that I was startled when my DS2 announced to my Ma 'My Dad's got a big willy' and she murmured 'how nice for you dear' at me (she's almost 80!). When I said, 'Ma!' she replied, 'well it's better than a small one'....)

Its a rude question. Full stop. However its your mums decision to decide the appropriatness of conversation around her own daughter. The nine year old. Not you.

your mum was wrong to say that at all, never mind in front of a nine-year old. pregnancy makes the whole world think they're entitled to your body. just wait until labour. every fucker wants a look.

It is not appropriate.

I have a friend who is lovely in lots of ways, but thinks nothing of discussing her sex life in front of her children and I change the subject and tell her to tell me later when they are not around.
