Nod, smile and think of something else.

Works for me everytime.

Where is everyone tonight?

Onebadbackandalostpelvicfloor · 14/12/2012 22:15

You don't know what it's like bringing up kids and being in pain each month

Was one a 'friend' said to me. She has bad periods but otherwise healthy.

You don't know what it's like having a baby in hospital.

Um, yes I do. DS was born in London (not where we live) as we knew he was going to need surgery immediately after his birth. He then spent the next 10 months in NICU.

So yes I bloody do! Cheers [fwine]

ElectricSoftParade · 14/12/2012 22:26

Oh alright then Wine

familyfun · 14/12/2012 22:30

My thinking on it is there are a few types of people:

a) The only ones it has happened to.

b) The ones it has happened to but they don't go on about it.

This may not be true but sometimes it feels like it. Hope your DD doesn't wake up again tonight and you can have an uninterrupted Wine Xmas Smile.

Happily both DCs in bed and, as they are in my bed, I know I can have my glass of wine in peace.

familyfun · 14/12/2012 23:09

both asleep now and me too nearly, just hope dp comes in quietly from xmas do.

I'll join you in this. I hear this from my Nanna. Her weekly disposable income, seriously, is over £200! That's weekly! I don't know what it's like to live with constant back pain. Really? SPd that did not go after dc2, exacerbated by a recent car accident. Last time I saw her I had literally just come from the physio. She has no friends, she does and sees them four out of seven days on average and no family. Except we see her weekly!

Drives me nuts! I just nod and smile.

misterwife · 15/12/2012 00:00

I have one friend who has Aspergers, and keeps on saying 'you don't know what it's like because you're neurotypical'. I don't have Aspergers, but I do have other neurological problems, so I've been calling her out on that increasingly vociferously...

Also, the word 'neurotypical' is kind of offensive.

deleted203 · 15/12/2012 00:07

My response to people who say this is to answer briskly, 'I do, actually - but self pity is very unattractive' and then change the subject. I'm not saintly enough to nod and smile.

elfbambinos · 15/12/2012 00:22

your MIL?

ElectricSoftParade · 15/12/2012 05:18

I like that sowornout. I am going to remember that one, thank you.
